The 90s East was better than the current East

The early 90s it was Pistons, Celtics, Sixers and a young Bulls team
The mid to late 90s it was Bulls, Knicks, Magic and Pacers

The Pacers took LA to 6 games so they weren't garbage
The Shaq-Penny Magic would cause the Cavs problems today, would probably beat them
The Ewing Knicks.....who in the East today is guarding Ewing?
The Bad Boy Pistons were still around in the very early 90s
The Celtics were still formidable in the early 90s before Bird retired

Jordan was just better than all of them. But those teams weren't garbage. Outside of Miami and Cleveland, the East is garbage.

How was the 90's east better when one team basically dominated that entire decade?:dwillhuh:

People on here complain about Lebron having an easy road to the finals, but if the 90s competition was that much better, why is it that the only time a non-Bulls team (outside of that 95 squad, and even then MJ was rusty) made the finals was when Jordan was out of the league?

99-04 it was competitive. The teams were all just trash
those chancey billups/rip/sheed/Wallace Piston teams were pretty good though.

but yea. the East was competititve for a long time.
just that all the teams were so trash.

they were competitive trash though....until they played the West.

Those Pistons scored 90 points per game though. They had 1-2 reliable shooters from deep and no bench. I think all their starters played over 38 minutes per game. If Wade doesn't get hurt in game 5 of the conference finals in 2005, Miami advances and they're probably remembered as just a Cinderella run, albeit a massive Cinderella run in 2004

it was their defense that drove them though.
defense, and smart ball.

They played tough D and locked up teams, having them frustrated and shyt. They controlled the pace. and they were efficient.

THey were great because they did it without a true superstar. ANd they were the ultimate team .
