Me thinks the OP missed the point. The hip hop rappers that ran with that "im not a rapper" steez wasnt talking about oh im out here doing other things i just rap here and there throwing up nothings in the booth. No.

They tryna say, I only rap to make this money. Dont think im a [nas-type, so to say] who cares about and does it for the art. **** that, this is simply a means to earn money.

"im not your average cat,
**** rap,
im tryna make cream and thats that
Whatever it takes and however it gots to go down,
four mics on stage or mother****in four-pound"

and just cause you work on your craft doesnt necessarily make you a rapper. It just makes your arm to make money that much stronger. Jay-Z, epitomizes that to this day IMO. Hes not really out here trying to develop and progress the artform. He's slutting it out as a marketing tool to keep his name relevant, leveraging it to get lucrative business deals.

Nah Jay cares about his place in rap. He wants to be considered the best RAPPER of all time. He only says the other stuff to make him seem more cool. But listen to BP to Black Album. He wants people to love him and consider him the best. He considers himself Michael Jordan and Frank Sinatra of rap. He clearly does it for more than a hustle.

Others - Bleu, Rocko, heck a lot of Southern dudes you don't get that impression that they care if anyone rates their pen game or artistry.

Master P - yes he pushed numbers.

Birdman - no. He does it for the attention and fame. He was never the prime act.

Puff - same as Birdman. Loves the attention.

Truly its Eazy, P and some newer Southern Cats.

I heard Eazy started writing later in his career. I always wanted to know when he started and how much writing did he do. Wonder if he wrote his verses on Real Compton City G'z
i could be wrong but i THINK he started writing a bit on 5150 through to the end of his career/life. Although, he always had help writing. And I think Dre'sta wrote the majority of his shyt post nwa.

I bet if Eazy-E were still here, Ruthless Records would still be bigger than ever. Eazy-E was a business man and he knew how things worked. Even after N.W.A. broke up, Eazy kept the ball rolling with Bone Thugs N Harmony, Above The Law, and Penthouse Players etc.
was going to bring this up. He already had a damn near diamond act in Bone Thugs. No doubt in my mind Ruthless would have been on Aftermaths level if E stayed alive.

birdman, master p, ....yeah that pretty much it.
Nah Birdman and Master P wanted to be rappers. They studied other rappers then decided they can write raps and get in the game.... They're rappers

Nobody had to beg Birdman or Master P to rap then write all they're rhymes for them
