I don't understand the logic of success canceling out an L.

If I whoop a nikka ass n he turn around and hit lotto a month later...Does that mean he whooped my ass? :wtf:

Sucka nikkas tryna change history is all

Nobody has ever cared about this and I'm confused why people keep bringing it up.

There was never a burden on a diss record to end somebody's career....that's some internet shyt.

"Hit Em Up" did literally nothing to BIG's career and people still lost their minds when it dropped. And it's obviously a legendary record, in rap history.

People keep mixing the two. It would be like getting washed at the Super Bowl and fans of the losing team mention how rich and successful the players are.

It's two completely separate, unrelated things.

Fred.
The Super Bowl is a sporting match that has a clear winner and loser by points

Who wins a rap beef is subjective, success with plaques and hits is not :heh: :mjlol:

I mean, I guess it’s technically true… if by “put a ceiling on Drake and Hov’s legend” you narrowly mean “people can’t say they never lost a battle” …for whatever that’s worth…IMO it’s not worth much considering Hov is the closest thing we have to a consensus GOAT and Drake is far and away the preeminent and defining rapper of his generation… it’s like saying Jordan losing to the Shaq-Penny Magic put a ceiling on his already GOAT worthy legend and legacy

For me i’m interpreting a “Cap” as meaning that there’s no flawless claim as being the best. Jay lost to Nas, another GOAT candidate and that only helps strengthen NAS claim. Drake lost to Push, a superior MC at a time when Drake was claiming to be the the GREATEST of his generation and touting his battle with Meek as proof of his rap supremacy.

Both battles are great examples of when sales, popularity, and the agenda of the media are set aside. Only the better MC and strategist are what truly matter

Nobody in their right mind thought Drake won this, let's not be stupid here.

Fred.
Why can’t someone think the Duppy Freestyle is a better song than Story of Addidon? Or Infared :patrice:

I actually thought Infared was the best song of this whole beef

I don't fukk with Drake mostly but losing a rap battle only affects you if it ends your career.

So Ja Rule, MC Shan, Moe Dee (even though I'm in the minority that thinks he spanked LL)

Them nikkas never recovered. When nikkas see Drake out on tour or hear a new song they don't immediately think about Pusha.
Bruh yall need to stop moving the goalposts he lost. Drake cant even post his son without people making pusha jokes. His whole fatherhood is gonna be synonymous with his enemy and yall talking about songs and tours lol

Even if we use the jay vs nas example. Just because jay became a billionaire doesnt change the fact that he admitted ether hurt him. Like what are we even debating here lol

For me i’m interpreting a “Cap” as meaning that there’s no flawless claim as being the best.

Which to me, is functionally no cap at all…as there are NO flawless claims to being the best ever…no one’s claim to GOATness is solidified or nullified because of the result of one rap battle…losing a rap battle is like getting dunked on in the NBA…contest enough shots you’re gonna get posterized…KRS is supposed to be the rap battle god, gotta career shattering diss for every rapper in the current top 10 and all that good shyt…and he got a L on his record from muhfukking NELLYbut ultimately who gives a shyt, nikkas lose rap battles everyday B …have enough scraps you’re gonna get caught sooner or later…
Jay lost to Nas, another GOAT candidate and that only helps strengthen NAS claim. Drake lost to Push, a superior MC at a time when Drake was claiming to be the the GREATEST of his generation and touting his battle with Meek as proof of his rap supremacy.

To me what it ends up being is that when folks try to hang on to these battle losses and hype them up to more than they are, they start to sound like folks nitpicking Jordan and Lebron…. Yeah you got the all time scoring record, been All NBA like 20 years running, chips, MVPs, etc..but haaa haaa you got swept in the WCF in year 20…like goddamn nikkas gotta be on top of the game for decades on end, cover every angle from the streets to the clubs to the chicks to crossover pop…respond to EVERY hating ass jealous emcee that chirps their way AND NEVER lose? :heh:

Might as well just crown them at that point … cause if the cap is “you didn’t have the perfect career from every conceivable angle”, you’re pretty much conceding to greatness
