It constantly portrays how "insane" the mask mandate was but never shows the impact of COVID other then Joaquin coughing a little near the end. Hell, It starts out with him being in his car alone and being forced to wear a mask by the local police, then in next scene he goes to the bar and a guy freaking out because a homeless man dont have a mask on and thats all in the first 10 mins of the movie.

He made the 2 white people as the speakers for the BLM protests, while the film’s only Black character has no political opinions or personality. Police brutality is downplayed as we see with the video of the homeless and Joaquin from the bar being taking out of context. The protesters are portrayed as posers/opportunist or who don’t actually care about the cause and are only there to steal and riot.

Meanwhile, MAGA is completely absent from the story....Trump and MAGA are only mentioned in passing during the leadup to the 2020 election :mindblown:

Did yall even see the movie?
Fam, this was not a documentary covering Covid.

It was a movie fictionalizing events around the pandemic for entertainment purposes using satire and irony.

No you’re not going to get everything that transpired around it because it’s a movie :skip:

The fact that you didn’t get why the two white people speaking for BLM absolutely blows my mind :dead:

There’s even a fukking dinner scene with the kid and his father that culminates the entire purpose :dead:

Michael (the black character) was used as a plot device to push the movie along.

Police brutality is an issue but completely fine with them covering conspiracies and cult leaders. :dead:

You have an issue with how Covid is depicted but no issue with antifa/pharmaceutical company spreading propaganda trying to kill a sheriff :dead:

Just because you don’t like how they didn’t cover things, doesn’t make it a bad movie it means you expected something else using personal nitpicks to critique the vision the director had.

Michael (the black character) was used as a plot device to push the movie along.

The fact that you dont see any problem with this is sad. The movie goes out of it way to make you feel sympathy for the anti-mask, anti-BLM killer cop from the first frame to the last for over 2 hours, but couldnt spend a few minutes developing the ONLY black character?

The movie is so overly critical of the BLM protest and was so dismissive of police brutality that at one point i thought they was going to spread the "George Floyd actually died from Fentanyl overdose" lie. Ari Aster himself have said that he wanted to attack both sides, but CLEARLY had more smoke for one side then the other and that dinner scene is a perfect example of....you got right wingers sharing that scene right now on social media...what scene from this movie can progressives share :jbhmm:

Him using 2 whites to speak for the BLM protest is a way to dismiss the protests....it didnt go over no ones head....what went over your head is that he is telling the audience...."this crazy protests in 2020 was just a bunch of white kids who felt white guilt that should never have been taken serious".

Why do i have to keep breaking this down for you?

You in here talking about its not a documentary....NO SHYT! Ari Aster tried covering so many things in one movie without doing ANY of them justice....thats his fault :umad:

Michael being black and a plot device has no bearing on the filmwatching experience because the movie’s end goal isn’t exclusive to appeasing JamesJabdi’s blackness.

There’s PLENTY of black cops just like Michael, regular ass dudes who just there to get a check, don’t care about all the extra shyt & don’t care about showing how black they are.

How the fukk do you watch the movie and not peep how Michael’s nonchalance to everything until he got arrested & he saw the bullshyt the white cops pulled on him?

That’s not a film showing depth and personality for a secondary character?

The movie is not about Michael :dead:

The movie is not about BLM :dead:

You keep confusing what you wanted with what you didn’t get. That’s not Ari’s fault, that’s yours and you don’t know how to articulate that so instead you keep saying it didn’t do it justice :dead:

No genius, you didn’t get what you wanted so instead you use 95% percent of your post to complain about how the film depicted BLM, newsflash, ITS NOT A MOVIE ABOUT BLM :dead:

How in absolute fukk did you get a perspective of sympathy for the cop? What inner insecurity are you dealing with that you perceived that?

How do you take an obvious poke at protestors using their white guilt into that meaning Ari is dismissing the entirety of the protest? No genius, it was used to make fun of those white protesters :dead:

What hotep blunt did you smoke yourself to think this deep :dead:

Who gives a fukk what progressives or right wingers can use from a film.

What in the fukk :what:

I am not surprised that you’re in here defending this movie like this… Luckily though, there are people out here who can actually analyze the subtext of a movie beyond “Oh, it’s satire so it’s cool :troll:”.

Ari Aster said himself he wanted audiences to feel connected with Joe Cross, and you’re in here saying he didn’t :martin:.

The BLM protest was a big topic in this movie and you’re in acting like it wasn’t :mjlol:.

You said Michael wasn’t badly written because he was nonchalant :mjlol:.

And you responding with “Who gives a fukk” just shows you can’t defend this movie....he kept promoting right wing talking points and you cool with that in this political climate:dahell:

Like I said in my original post… my problem was not just with how they showed BLM, it was also how they showed the latino mayor, COVID, the wife… this movie was a overly long MESS.....if you didnt catch the political agenda that Ari Aster was feeding you then you are either asleep or a CAC :mjpls:

Probably the most cringeworthy film of all time.

That annoying mom from Penguin had me triggered because I know a bunch of old ladies like her who narrate in the background of every conversation.

It was just sneeringly cynical about everything, which i found frustrating more than entertaining. I mean this is already what politics and social media are these days. I'm not sure this film is making the political statement Aster thinks it is.

Maybe it was intended as comedy, or it just went over my head but I thought it was a pretty annoying film.

A white cop who trying to do good pushed to the edge, when the goverment, BLM, latinos and his wife mess with him.

BLM and Covid was made out to be big joke in this movie...meanwhile the right wing CACS were painted as being good citizens however not the one white girl who keeps trying to tell the black officer that racism is real....probably the most blatant right wing movie i have seen in a long time....Ari Aster tries act like he balanced but he spends WAYYY more time shytting on one side then he does the other....I would have liked it more for Pedro Pascal to have been the lead and seen it from his point of view.

Fukk Ari Aster and this bullshyt :camby:
Thanks bruh. I'll cancel him and never watch his weird shıt again.
