Individual defenders are much better today than any time in the NBA’s past. Better athletes and they exert more energy.

The talent level is just better right now.
I disagree. You can’t say that especially when theirs so many positionless players playing defense. especially when you have more switching defense than ever goin on. Most of the “revered” defenders that get talked about aren’t really good defenders. Like PJ Tucker. That comment that Russ made about Beverley saying eh got y’all fool is how I’ve strongly felt About Pj Tucker. Dude jsut running around suing up as many fouls as he can without reaching the limit. Pj Tucker ain’t never shut anybody down.

I've commented on this game many a time, but the defense is comically bad.

Defenders getting caught behind offensive players who're not even screening, and allowing MJ to curl into 16fters is something you just don't see today. Any off-ball action that MJ releases himself from was barely even defended back then, and if it was, it was rarely ever the big man coming to help (they were almost always stationed in and around the paint).

Just look at how bad the defenders move laterally; look at how late they are to rotate; look at how bad they are at contesting; look at how often they go under screens.

Big men defending outside the paint during that era was non-existent.

Just look at the possession at 1.57sec - MJ gets a screen at the top, which then forces a switch onto Daugherty, who literally just watches MJ stroll around him, because he's too damn slow in the head and with his feet to do anything. Dudes on this board think fouling hard somehow equates to good defense.
It really becomes obvious that a lot of dudes just don't understand the game. Even many who played it. You did a great job here brother

Elite fukking posting into the new year.

The Utah jazz scored 69 points total in a finals game vs the bulls

The Miami heat scored 58 points in a playoff game against the Knicks in 1998.

Just awful awful basketball in the 90s

No they aren't. They deal with much easier defensive rules. That's it. I can only imagine what some of the guys from Kobe, McGrady, shyt even pierce would do in this era.

Kobe, T-Mac & Pierce are all time greats that would cook in any era. No shyt they would still get busy whether it’s 1962, 1982, 2002 or 2022

Russ talks a lot of shyt about opposing players.

And it’s not about shutting anyone down. Players back then didn’t shut anyone down either. That running you shytting in Tucker over is something guys like Oakley didn’t do because they couldnt move and didn’t need to move because the game was only played on one part of the court.

Don't know, probably simple as players optimizing for scoring and more players on the floor at any given time being skilled at shooting due to small ball and PF/C needing to have a shot now

During a stretch of the recent Celts vs Clips game that shyt seemed like a gloried game of horse the way dudes were just throwing up 3s soon as they passed half court
3s + lay ups + limited defense
