union forced pay structure that treat teachers like assembly-line workers rather than professionals. There is no escape from the salary guides designed to benefit older teachers, the core constituency of any teacher's union.
As a result, pay increases are back-end loaded, so younger teachers never see the big raises that other professionals their age earn.
Often, they adhere to pay schedules that make it impossible to attract the teachers you need when you need them, so you end up with districts that are overflowing with English teachers and no science teachers but can't offer higher pay for the science teachers they desperately need.

@ how triggered you are by any criticism of public sector unions.
...if you know any teachers ask them why they cant go negotiate a higher salary themselves.

And yea @DEAD7 there's no union in my agency and there's been a teacher shortage every year. Raised the minimum wage for them to 15 last year at an attempt to keep staff... it hasn't worked.

Fact of the matter is being a teacher is like 4 jobs in one and they are severely underpaid for the things they have to do. Teaching only plays marginally better than fast food management at this point.

Short term move people around that are there atm. Long term, have no idea.

Professionally, I don't care, not my problem or concern. All I do is IT and that's been short staffed since last year.
My dept. don't wanna pay to hire talent or keep talent so it is what it is.
