Nope. Still trash.

For years, I felt just like this.

Kinda still do, lol. But I finally figured out why I don’t like this album, as much as I would like to or expected to. It's Questlove's involvement as executive producer.

If Common and Dilla just locked in and did the album themselves, I feel like we get an entirely different album. But the issue with Questlove, is that he likes to feel like he's Quincy Jones, but with a lot less talent and vision. Him forcing people into that Soulquarians sh*t that Dilla didn't even like or wanted to be a part of, and then trying to boost himself as the leader with a sound that he felt was "progressive" had a lot of the people involved with that, off-track.

This is why Dilla said he didn't like that movement and why Common had to get away from it and hit Kanye for the next album, which ended up being one of his near masterpieces. Questlove's insecurities were literally clouding the vision and direction of legends. It's also why every Roots album after Things Fall Apart was weird, with the exception of one. Dude tries way too hard.

I understand this

Quest has a way of being over dramatic with everything.

I agree, if the album would’ve been just Dilla and Common, it would’ve been even better

Questlove is snobbish

That’s why his podcast sucks too, lol

I’m listening back to the album right now

The Hustle should’ve been a single

Along with *Star69 with Bilal

And then I Am Music with Jill Scott

This album suffers due to an underlying fault conceptually from its inception, Common deliberately tried to make something avant-garde with Electric Circus, rather than it being avant-garde circumstantially.

The fact there’s was a conscious understanding to make something different is in fact its biggest issue, it’s somewhat disingenuous as a result.
