This album suffers due to an underlying fault conceptually from its inception, Common deliberately tried to make something avant-garde with Electric Circus, rather than it being avant-garde circumstantially.

The fact there’s was a conscious understanding to make something different is in fact its biggest issue, it’s somewhat disingenuous as a result.
thats actually a good point but I mean, experimentation brings that on

I understand this

Quest has a way of being over dramatic with everything.

I agree, if the album would’ve been just Dilla and Common, it would’ve been even better

Questlove is snobbish

That’s why his podcast sucks too, lol

Facts.

Dude is way too snobbish, but without the resume to be.

He said Common started messing with him and The Roots because he wanted to be on "the winning team", as if dude wasn't making classic sh*t before he even met them. He's wild. And look at the album Common made immediately after getting away from that Soulquarians nonsense. Straight celebrated classic.

Exactly

That’s hilarious especially considering many Common fans from the pre LWFC era, felt like Common was tripping when he made LWFC

And because it’s not like The Roots were winning until “You Got Me”

Yup, you right

A lot of Common fans wanted more Resurrection and One Day It’ll All Make Sense

Common was doing just fine with No I.D.

Different though, experimentation in process is a product of creativity, instinctually in some respects, there's nothing contrived about it.

However when you go out and say 'I'm going to make an avant garde album this time around', you're aware of it, and its no longer avant-garde or for the arguments sake 'original'.

Great point.

Common's best sh*t is with No ID. He wasn't making any wack sh*t with dude, at all. It was all dope. The minute he gets away from that, he started being weird, disappointing his day one fans and getting defensive about his process. Then right after he gets away from those weirdos, and does Be with Kanye, the people love him again, lol.

He gets with Pete Rock, and it's the same love and high quality music. Common isn't the kind of dude that goes into an album and runs the show. He's really the kinda MC that needs a real producer to guide him to paint the picture. Questlove ain't on that level. The minute he took the helm and started directing The Roots' moves, they got weak too.

Yup, you see the pattern

Yeah, Common is a lyricist and emcee in the most purest form and and like most good lyricists and emcees, he’s at his best with a great producer who knows what he’s doing

I feel like Common’s One Day It’ll All Make Sense album was Common finally finding his voice as an emcee and artist and having that balance between flexing as an lyricist/emcee but also as an artist with what he wanted to say. That album is his most well rounded album

Truth.

Between Resurrection and ODIAMS he definitely found his voice. But I also think he got in a nice little pocket where he could just be himself and not worry about fitting into an image. His music seemed more organic and honest then. Then sh*t got weird, and we didn't really see that Common again, until Be, in my opinion.

Resurrection is still my favorite project from him, but I think it's because you could tell he had the right creative people around him when he was making it. His day one people.

Facts, all facts

I can understand that. You can’t go wrong with Resurrection or One Day It’ll All Make Sense
