Getting stuck on the problems is the best part. That feeling when I solve a frustrating problem is one of the top 3 feelings I've ever felt in my life :ohlawd:

That's what programming is at its core. It's simply coming up with a solution to a problem. You have to rewire the way you think to be a good dev.

You also have to be committed though and like @Cereal_Bowl_Assassin said, you have to be willing to play the game and lose multiple times. But each time you lose, it gets you closer and closer to the winning solution.
It’s better than popping a nut.

You gotta really be into it. I tried for a few years and a project of mine was actually recognized by a globally renown company but ultimately I just don't have the passion for lines upon lines of code :ld:

Tech in general is where it's at. I prefer IT much more
I wasn't good at it nor did I enjoy it. It definitely isn't for everyone, even some of the ones who are good at it naturally

There’s a lot incompetence out there.
There sure as fukk is. I've been gradually losing respect for a couple of the senior people on my team. I'm understanding with not knowing everything because it's impossible. But when I walk into the situation with as much knowledge about the topic, or less, and have to bail you out, that's a problem.

That’s not how it works, you gotta keep googling the error.

Retracing your steps, then keep refining your search and applying new logic, only then to find out, a simple syntax error was causing you so much grief.:mjcry:
breh in the scenario where there isn't an answer on stackoverflow, google or the official documentation.. i feel like crying :mjcry:

I'm talking about living this life in general. Even if you're trying to build an app that makes you money, focusing on the payout isn't going to motivate you through roadblocks you come across.

You almost have to have a mindset that welcomes the pain. Kinda like working out, you have to be willing to experience the pain that comes with it.

And just like working out, you can't give up :wow:

Best field no doubt.
It takes years to master but the trick is don’t think everyone else knows immediately what they’re doing.

There’s a lot incompetence out there.

However stackoverflow is your friend
Absolutely facts.

One of my favorite videos and it's my experience:

I try not to delete the integration tests though and try my best to make them pass :mjlol:

That said, it's one of the reasons why though I don't mind the Leetcode grind. I'm going through it right now where I'm on a team with people who simply know how to talk a big game, pass their work off onto other people (like me), etc. People like those who I'm working with somehow break into the field because one of their friends got them a job or they didn't have a tough enough interview where the company at the time was desperate for a dev. It actually happens often (especially the latter).

I'm definitely leaving this company next year. Got about a month of vacation lined up for the holidays and am hitting the job search in February.

Edit: I love Go and Rust.

No doubt. Coding is a skill I need to concentrate fully on to get back better at.

Funny you mention how you have to change the way you think. I felt like my brain chemistry was changing, especially during the tough problems.
Just take baby steps. It's a marathon not a race.

Do a little bit each day.

You brush your teeth and shower everyday right? I'm assuming.

Treat coding the same way. If its challenging that's how it should be. You learn through the persistence of trial and error.

Anyone looking to break into the field.

I suggest learning SQL.

The basics can be learned and applied within 4-8 weeks. Competent SQL developer jobs start between 75k-90k. There's so many SQL jobs its not even funny.

discord :ohhh: they want me to make a jsfiddle or sqlfiddle or link a codepen.. that's more work :stopitslime:

If you can adequately explain the issue you're having, maybe they won't. At least that's been my experience :manny:

Back in the day when I was terrible at asking questions, they would tell me to drop it in a codepen but now I just take a deep breath, write out a detailed question that outlines my detailed issue and copy and paste the specific parts of code that are causing my issue, and no one asks for a codepen anymore

It's all in the way you ask the question. :wow:

SQL jobs? i didn't think there are specific jobs for SQL :ohhh: I'm using Sequelize at the moment, first time using a ORM. Different from Raw SQL.
