Elon Musk has added another bit of bizarre behaviour to the list by smoking a joint during a live interview.

The Tesla-founding billionaire took a drag during an- appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, as well as swigging whisky.

The two-and-a-half hour interview covered everything from artificial intelligence to Tesla, his private space company SpaceX and love.

Towards the end, Rogan lit what he described as a joint containing tobacco and cannabis – which is legal in California – and offered it to Musk.

The podcast host asked his guest: “’You probably can’t do this because of stockholders, right?” but Musk asked, “I mean it’s legal, right?” and accepted, taking a puff.

During the interview, the pair discussed Musk’s ability to dream up ideas and inventions, with the billionaire comparing the way his brain works to a ‘mutation’, saying when he was a child he thought he was ‘insane’.

They also discussed Musk’s public persona and social media activity.

Musk admitted – perhaps in a reference to his recent row after he branded British-born diver Vern Unsworth a ‘pedo’ – that he had made mistakes on Twitter.

“The vast majority of negative comments, I just ignore them,” he said. “Every now and again I get drawn in and it’s not good, you can make some mistakes.”

Musk described the “negativity” on Twitter, and later added: “Be nicer to each other. Don’t assume someone is mean. It’s easy to demonise people.”

But the most noted part of the interview was the Tesla founder’s drag on the joint, with many seeing the move as the latest in a long list of eyebrow-raising behaviour.

Musk had previously apologised for his comments about Mr Unsworth, who helped with the globally-documented rescue of a young football team from caves in Thailand, but repeated the claims this week.

Mr Unsworth, from St Albans in Hertfordshire, is now reportedly planning to sue Musk for what his lawyer called his “ongoing campaign of publishing vile and false accusations”.

Musk has also been embroiled in a series of spats with the media, attacking reporters and news organisations and in one case branding analysts’ questions “boring”.

Tesla’s stock and bond prices dropped on Wednesday – linked to the row over Musk’s comments about Mr Unsworth but also following an unveiling by Mercedes that presents a challenge to the electric car maker.
