Elvis ain't write dikk, he was basically forced out of creative control and had to get most of his songs from a b-tier songwriting firm, Hill & Range

One of his weed careers, Lamar Fike, had a stake in that company and kinda fukked him over on that :wow:

LZ is great though, a breh, forgot his name atm, played drums for them at Farm Aid (or Live Aid) too, we're everywhere :blessed:

An Elvis celebration thread on a Hip Hop messageboard is a wild thing to see. Those pics with Ali saved this thread and that Ray Charles Bob Costas interview sums up Elvis’s relationship to black folks and our music in real time.

He’s not worthy to be highlighted in our culture.
A message board who has a majority of users that don't like to read extensively and can't have discussions that are deeper than how they feel about thread titles is a wild thing to see

It's gotten to a point where I have to make threads and consciously dumb them down. Make them more accessible. Consciously make them easy to understand. And some of my threads still have the same posters who make dismissive statements like this

It's not an Elvis celebration thread. There is no celebration of anything. Nuance man. That's the last time I'll ever say the word Nuance on here. There's nothing more I can do

A messageboard where 30+ y/o men big up thot rap, drill, and Canadians who sing about stuff that would impress middle schoolers

Rock n roll is hip hop, Black ppl play music on a grid, other races just make noise, and we gave non-Blacks rhythm lessons for nothing :francis:

I said he wasn't bad; didn't say he was the king of rnr (he isn't), I ain't even say good

As far as I'm concerned, he died in 1970, lost all his integrity and dignity, a true example of wasted talent

I’m not one to make statements like this but I felt some type of way seeing this thread. Not that Elvis never needs to be spoken on in a music forum but this particular artist was propped up above many more talented musicians of his time and most of those folks were Black.

Yes, nuance is needed in music discussions but to get a full thread of Elvis’ music and catalog in this forum is just odd to me and it looks out of place especially considering how he was viewed by his Black contemporaries.

If you want to hear another musician who actually called for desegregation and wrote his own music, check out this thread on Johnnie Ray, he came right after Sinatra and right before Elvis, was America's first pop star

Not saying he was this John Brown figure, but he wasn't Pat Boone either, a lot of his Black contemporaries weren't particularly negative against him either

James Brown was one of the first people to attend his funeral and BB King wouldn't shut up about how they were friends
