Besides stats, I don't think some know or remember how stacked the wealthier franchises were back then. Denver was not one of these stacked franchises that had 5 or 6 hall of famers on one side of the damn ball that played on one team most of their career. Still baffles the mind that Elway's Broncos were in the same league as the Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, 49ers, Bills, Oilers, Bears of that era. Was watching a 1988 Giants vs Cowboys game. Cowboys sucked that year, but cotdamn at the Giants defense. Was thinking about that early 90s Eagles defense. Cot damn! :gladbron:. Elway was out there doin it against these teams.:whoo:

I started watching Elway around '95/'96.I thought he was ...I guess, like many are saying, he had his best years '93 upwards.

I was surprised as fukk reading his career stats. It just couldn't be the same guy I watched out there on the field.Broncos had a squad back then.

Looking at the stats, Carson Palmer is on pace to have better numbers than him:huhldup:

I know Jay said numbers don't lie, but when it comes to sports, I think they do

The Mel Blount rule was put in place in 1978. It was only called more after 2003. Every single QB who has played after 1978 has played with rules to favor the offense. The guys who REALLY should be complaining are like Johnny U and Otto Graham

As for elway it's been said time and time his numbers were Medicore for His OWN era.
I always bring this up when people complain about the 2003 rule changes to prop up 1980s QBs. The 1980s is when the Superstar/franchise QB came to be. You had great QBs in other eras, but they were more "get the job done" types. With the 1978 rule changes, passing offenses were liberated.

He was not overrated.. Mufukkas like NYC Rebel always say that but when you go to the SB more than once with dudes like Sammy Winder, Ricky Nattiel, Mark Jackson and Clarence Kay you are not overrated.. Not to mention Steve Sewell on 3rd downs
They came into those Super Bowls with top defenses bruh. Let's herald Phil Simms lining up with Bavaro, phil McConkey and mark Ingram at receivers bruh

Their Defesnes collasped in those SB's.

Allowed Simms to have the completion record

Gave up 35 in a quarter to the skins

Gave up double nickel to the niners a SB record.

It's a team game though. Offense takes blame as well.

Elway didnt play well in those bowls, b.

My point is, pointing at him making it as if he didn't go into those games with good defenses is bs.

They were good players that brought that team to the Super Bowl and are often forgotten. You mentioned Elways offense alone as if he didn't have a great then defense. He leaned on those dudes to cover for him as well.
