Jeff George>>>>No its because nobody had that kind of physical ability...
I'm not talkin numbers and SBs.. Those are TEAM accomplishments depending upon who you have around you..
I have never seen a QB throw the football like Elway in my entire life.. Only Favre comes close.
The REAL Super Bowls were the NFC championship games back then
From 1983-1990
Joe Montana played with teammates who compiled 38 pro bowl appearances (including 18 on offense). He played for Bill Walsh and George Siefert.
Dan Marino played with teammates who compiled 31 pro bowl appearances (including 17 on offense). He played for Don Shula.
John Elway played with teammates who compiled 21 pro bowl appearances (including 5 on offense). He played for Dan Reeves.
Pro Bowl appearances don't always tell the whole story, but it's not hard to see that Elway had much less help on offense than Montana and Marino.
I'm not even saying that Elway was necessarily as good as them, but the gap in offensive talent goes a long way towards explaining why Elway's stats aren't close to Marino's or Montana's.

name the 5-6 HOFers on offense (or defense) on the 1987 Redskins?
you're totally missing the point. The 87 Redskins were totally more talented at almost every position than Denver. You don't see mismatches like this anymore, even with bad teams. I'm not even an Elway stan like that, but I actually did watch the actual games. Dude was simply carrying his team. No overrated about it. At the same time, I''m comfortable saying Troy Aikman was overrated, and I'm a Cowboys fan. He made timely great throws, and he was consistent. Great though? Perhaps, if he ever had to do it, but he didn't have to 90% of the time, so it is hard to say if he was great or not.Yup....that was his rival.
Dog..he wasn't viewed on Montana or Marinos level. Don't change the 80s for me. He was more on Kosar level. Bernie actually put up better numbers than elway back then. It was Joe and Dan making all pro teams bruh. Elway was outside them
Who cares about any of this? No one said anything about "super human stats" and contrasting it to today. Elway's numbers back then was more Kosar than Marino or Montana. Those two super bowls overrated the fukk outta him.Look at the stats of qbs back then nobody was putting up super human stats at all people are spoiled by todays passing numbers
When you realize the numbers Nick Foles put up this year then look at say Marino and Montanas stats most years youll see what a joke todays nfl is in terms of passing
No...they weren't. The Broncos came in with the better team and were favored that game for a reason. Jesus christ!!!you're totally missing the point. Its sad becasue young guys under 30 something will just see stats from qbs in the 80's and compare it to players today and think they werent as good when the rules make it to where even medicore qbs are gonna put up stats nowadays where it used to be much harder to play the position.
Same thigns gonna happen with wr's,wr's today are gonna smash all the records and put up better stats then old school wrs becasue of the rules

The Mel Blount rule was put in place in 1978. It was only called more after 2003. Every single QB who has played after 1978 has played with rules to favor the offense. The guys who REALLY should be complaining are like Johnny U and Otto Graham
As for elway it's been said time and time his numbers were Medicore for His OWN era.
i hate when stupid people pretend to have read everyones post and make an umbrella comment when they are 100% wrong.Look at the stats of qbs back then nobody was putting up super human stats at all people are spoiled by todays passing numbers
