The one thing I'll never get over is that Eminem thinks Relapse is his worst album. I really don't see how he could think that. I know creators don't always feel the same way about their work as fans do, but this guy is the most famous rap nerd on the planet. He can't hear all those different flows, the way he adjusts his delivery on every track, the rhyme schemes? He really thinks Encore and Revival are better, more cohesive projects?

Aside from that, it's also the feedback he got from the fans and the suits. It ONLY went 2x plat...a horror core album basically, dropped in the middle of 2010's mainstream rap. I feel like Paul's mission has been to keep him from doing another authentic album like that.

I never knew Redman was on Class A drug shyt?

My favorite Em album, easily.

His artistic peak? Nah, but when it comes to beats, rhymes and the thematic nature of Em's music it's the most potent combination of everything that is dope (and weird/off putting.) about Eminem.

Relapse is Em's 5th best album by far and that's not a bad feat when SSLP, SSEP and MMLP are in damn near everyone's top 100 rap albums for sure.

I think 'Music To Be Murdered By' is much much better than 'Relapse' and I'd rank Relapse only c*nt hair ahead of 'Infinite'.

As long as he never makes a MMLP2 I'll be straight with any effort Em gives. Now that was a stinker.

Song was always a banger, Dre's production on that album was insane.



Whenever he performed these songs live he dropped the accent, wish he could have done that on the recordings. He did use it to make some crazy shyt rhyme though.

I loved this album. The concept for his song, "My Darling" was so good and my favourite off of 'Relapse'. The song's sorta like his own rendition to 50's, "A Baltimore Love Thing" and 2Pac's, "Me & My Girlfriend" when he's talking from the perspective to being in love but addicted to getting into trouble and his gun always being by his side.

I hope he does more concept albums going forward. 'Music To Be Murdered By' is the right direction.

While I'm not a huge fan of relapse, this song is a masterpiece and easily a top 10 track in Em's catalog. He's addressed his addiction and overdose in other songs like Going Through Changes, Castle, and Arose, but this will always be the best.

To me, it was a matter of timing. I feel like Recovery came one year too late and Relapse came one year too early. It should have been the opposite. The first album Eminem puts out in five years is a concept album centered around serial killers and filled with weird accents. I don't think anybody knew how to take it when it came out. If he released it in 2020, people would lose their minds over it. Critics would call it the album of the year, it would clean up at award shows. We wouldn't hear the end of it.

It's disappointing to hear how Relapse was referred to as "just rap records" and how Eminem not paying attention to what the average listener wanted from him was looked at as a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with just doing rap records. That's hip hop at its core. Locking in with a small circle, getting some raw beats, doing something that not everyone is going to appreciate. Relapse sounds like something Eminem wanted to make for the hell of it. He had a concept, thought it was interesting, Dre saw the vision and those two just went to work doing their thing.

You're right in that the powers that be don't want another Relapse from Em. That's why instead of getting Relapse 2, we got Recovery. I could see Eminem maybe wanting to work with Pink and Rihanna, but why did the songs have to sound like shyt made for mass appeal? I can't imagine how hard it must have been to make a tribute song for Proof, but "You're Never Over" was what was hot? "Ridaz" and "Session One" were just bonus tracks? I don't buy into Eminem thinking Recovery was the way to go all by himself. He was pushed into it the minute Relapse didn't do 2002 numbers.

Will do. It's all something that I've been meaning to do for years. I just need to find a converter that I can rely on not to chew up the tapes which is a problem I've read about too often for me to just buy the first one I see at a good price.

Stay Wide Awake in my opinion is Eminem's best song ever.

Relapse is a borderline/could be a classic. Its the last great Dre production and Em was not human at all with the pen, flow and delivery. The accent wasnt even that bad/added to the album imo. Cats listen to rock and country music all day and dont complain about the vocal tones they use to get certain words and enunciations across. Rap should be no exception. Straight nitpicking.

Even Eminem himself is in a bad record deal/has some confinement. Main why we made you is on Relapse when it didnt fit the album at all.
