It was basically a mainstream horrorcore album released in the 2010's, way outta bounds from what the 'sound' was, which is why I loved it.

Redman hates DIAD because it was a dark time in his life. Relapse is kinda a nod to that album, so I can see the paralells of Em feeling a way about it because of the drugs and all that went into it.

But it seems more like it was about it getting panned more than anything, which sucks because it was the last 'real' Eminem album where the shyt didn't reek of some kinda label agenda. People blame Paul becasue Em is always holding his pocket like a bytch lol, I mean it 'only' sold 2x platinum.

:comeon:
Wouldn't you consider Relapse to be a "comeback" from Encore though?

I’ve said this in another thread so I guess I’ll put this here
And honestly when it comes to “Relapse” I can understand why Em doesn’t fukk with that album like that. Even though his core audience LOVED that record (myself included) to the casual listener it showed that he had no growth. The public looked at that album the same way we all look at Drake after he dropped CLB. Same subject matter, same type of beats, same wacky single, same ole Marshall.

I mean WE liked it cause he was gone for 4 years and he was giving his core Stanbase VINTAGE shady. For other folks it turned them off.

It wasn’t challenging enough for him..

Which is why “Recovery” happened and became Em’s first “mainstream pop” album. After that him and his people leaned into it TOO much and THATS when Em’s flow started to change.

I lowkey blame his manager Rosenberg cause I feel he was the one pushing Em to go in that direction :snoop:

The backlash of “Revival” was lowkey a wake up call for Em and ever since then he has slowly started going back to his regular self flow wise. It’s a process…:francis: but I feel he will get back to it.

Em said in his interview with Sway that he feels “Encore” is a better album then “Relapse.” Only reason why “Encore” sounded like how it was cause some of the tracks leaked and it sounded like he rushed to the finish the album. Also he was on drugs heavy at that point..

On “Relapse” he was coming off the drugs while recording the album and was getting back to the swing of things. The whole serial killer theme mixed with the Slim Shady character was an entertaining listen for the core Stan base.

But like i said before, the average listener it was a turn off.

Also when u listen to that interview Em says he still has the “Relapse 2” recordings he just don’t fukk with the records no more. I also remember reading those recordings were pretty much gonna be leftovers from the original “Relapse.” It was pretty much gonna be his “Music To Be Murdered By” Side B.

:mjcry: I will go out and say that Relapse was Em's best work. IDNGAF. I can easily bump Relaspe with all of the funny ass accents over his "best" work (MMLP and TES).

Shame Em hates making good music.
In a technical aspect yes, if we're speaking Multis and flow...

Does anyone wanna have a pizza party and discuss Em's multisyllabic style?

This was actually a good interview. They thought he had possible brain damage from ODing. And he sufffered ear issues which would explain all that damn yelling.

I think Paul is just tired of fans always asking him about Relapse 2 and wanted Eminem to confirm that it doesn't exist. Eminem wasn't catching on to what Paul was doing and admitted he has more than enough songs to make an album out of them, so that's why he says that he was set up after Paul asked him why he doesn't just release the songs.

And that thing Eminem said about the songs not even being good enough for Refill doesn't make sense. Artists record music all the time that never gets released, for various reasons. The plan was always for Relapse 2 to come out. Eminem said himself that him and Dre had enough material for four albums, and the only thing holding up Relapse 2 was how many songs he wanted to put on it. 50 Cent confirmed it exists, and he liked the music on Relapse 2 better. Eminem just got shamed into not going through with it and it led to this bizarre love/hate relationship he has with Relapse.

I still feel like Eminem would have been better off if he put out Relapse 2 in 2009 like he wanted. Just take the best songs left over, make an album, and move on to Recovery. It wouldn't change anything. Now, he's in this weird space where he doesn't like Relapse and cringes at it, but he teases his fans by making songs like "Discombobulated" and "Is This Love." Like I said, it's bizarre.

Relapse isn't Em's creative peak, but my overall favorite album of his, so most def.

But because it didn't sell like they wanted, he had to 'come back' from Relapse and drop Recovery instead of Relapse 2 with a bunch of records where he's trying to fit in with what was on the top 40 at the time. That fukked the whole trajectory of his sound up because he started trying to adapt to the rap game instead of doing his own thing. His music being different was always apart of his draw.

I lost all respect for Eminem when he shytted on that album (which happened to be his best work) just because it wasn’t friendly for the radio and Walmart
Em was on the latest ep of Hard Knocks, on HBO, where he visited the Detroit Lions training camp. At one point he was watching some tape and jokingly says "wait is that the guy who said my last album trash trash." It was a joke but based on various things he's said over the decade it's obvious the criticism has broken his brain, artistically. I haven't liked an Em album since Eminem Show.

I'll take it a step further.

He lost weight on some Christian Bale/Machinst shyt just to do the 3AM video.

There was was supposed to be a short film that was supposed to go with the album and drop around Halloween. I'll assume after they picked the wrong singles and didn't get much play they backed up off that dope promo idea. "Hello" should have been the first single.

Perfectly said.

It’s just something about those Recovery records that doesn’t sound as good to me and that’s exactly why.

Paul and Em have a really weird dynamic. Paul literally speaks for him and tells him what he has in the vault and what he didn't. Seems like Paul calls the shots of what Em does, when, how etc

People need to stop propping that shyt ass Relapse album up when the only thing good about it was the album packaging and the concept. Screaming, yelling, squealing and accents does not make for anything decent at all. And the production is way overstated cause the lyrics make the beats unlistenable.

Facts, best thing was the beats. And they were wasted with the shyt Em was rapping about.
