Facts. Eminem didn't open up a single lane for anybody. If anything he set a bar for white rappers that was too impossible to reach. White rappers would get the :mjpls: "you think you're Eminem". Not a single notable white rapper today has followed in his path

Prior to Drake a rapper was expected to be from the hood.

Obligatory two paragraphs, the second one is too self-explanatory to elaborate on . . the whole discussion is in the thread title. Think about it . . share your thouhgts

Close the damn thread.

Kanye damn near INVENTED vulnerability in rap. :camby:

The Blueprint
God's Son
Marshall Mathers LP

^^^ all showcased the vulnerabilities in Jay, Nas, and Eminem years before Kanye debuted.

Perhaps...but they're not KNOWN for it like Kanye is.

Kanye came out the GATE on some self-effacing shyt. That's HIS lane Drake stepped into....not the others'.

Kanye didn't come out the gate doing that. It's not necessarily what he's known for either. Kanye came out as the hybrid conscious/commercial rapper. It's why he carried the Louis Vuitton backpack. When Kanye came out, his songs were more political and conscious ("All Falls Down", "Jesus Walks", "Never Let Me Down", "Crack Music", "Diamonds From Sierra Leone", "Heard Em Say"). The lane that Drake stepped into was 808's & Heartbreaks Kanye. That's one of the albums that influenced Drake.

You can add Pac and DMX to the list of rappers who were vulnerable before Kanye too. Being vulnerable was pretty much their style.
