I know the album is a lil emo but i thought it was straight. i was looking at that Stay Wide Awake thread and people were shytting on Recovery something terrible. Its funny people were praising Relapse and Eminem disowned that album on Recovery.
Great album,best album that year.

I thought it was good but not great. I have to agree with others that said they don't like his singing hooks.

Relapse was probably eminem's most technically lyrical album to date. It was very misunderstood IMO bc ppl forget the sentiment surrounding eminem after the debacle that was Encore. To me, Encore is Eminem's worst album hands down. After that people were at the consensus that they wanted Slim Shady back. And to me, being a fan since 98, Relapse was exactly that- him "relapsing" to his old twisted, slim shady persona...Only this time his alter ego was crazier than ever. Original '97-99 era eminem was all about twisted, perverted humor delivered with a very tongue in cheek, humorous manner. IE "Product of espionage/drunk off pepsi n scotch/stickin my fukkin foot up a lesbians crotch...while pedestrians watch" type shyt. The first time i heard songs like stay wide awake, i was fukkin floored. Not only was eminem spittin again, he was nicer than he ever was. His timing, flow, and multis were impeccable. Ppl hated on the voices, but again thats something hes been doing forever, and to me it shows how skilled he is at being able to manipulate his voice n take on different characters. If you ask me, i'll take the dual personalities/sick humor over him screaming like on Recovery.

So Eminem gives the so called "fans" what they want and they start bashing it. As a result Relapse was not the "commercial" success it was supposed to be. Because of that, eminem abandoned that sound for his next album and made a huge commercial comeback with Recovery. The tone was completely different from Relapse, with more serious, mainstream angled rap records and less demented humor. Clearly it worked cuz it was the biggest album of 2010. I think overall its a really good album, but if I had to choose, I'll take the Relapse, sick sadistic eminem over that anyday. Em is at his best when hes showin what hes capable of on the mic, n thats what he does that whole album.

Co-sign this WHOLE thing...but let's be real..Relapse went muti-platinum..so it wasn't a failure by NO means...but to the "mainstream" crowd that wasn't what they wanted..:rudy:

They wanted him to go back to his Slim Shady content..and he did...WITH VENGEANCE..and again..I remember clear as day..that when the album started leaking slowly EVERYBODY in the SOHH were like :whoo: cuz they were quite surprised that Em was SPITTING. And not only that..but Dre's production was even more :whoo: cuz Dre showed that he STILL got it.

I mean shyt...I remember nikkas were quite surprised with the Relapse album when it dropped cuz after they heard "We Made You" they thought that white boy was done...boy were they surprised :youngsabo:

And idk how the ":pacspit: Relapse" talk start...but then it just started picking up speed and then all of a sudden nikkas were like "Naw it wasn't really all that :shaq2:"....

ESPECIALLY that MTV list when they shytted on him and didn't even bother to put him on the list..even tho his album was the highest selling album of the year and other shyt...:smh:

Exactly. I remember vividly when it leaked on :hamster: and ppl were in awe of how nice he was on that album. The same shyt goes for Recovery. And with both those albums, somewhere along the line ppl just flipped and started calling it wack, i dont get it :manny: I guess once fakkit ass critics on sites like pitchfork, who have no authority to speak on hip hop to begin with, start criticizing an album, sheeple just go along with it. Plus theres the added fact that Eminem is a CAC and people just love shyttin on him for that sole reason, knowing damn well hes one of the best to ever do it when it comes to straight spittin. And to everyone dikkriding this new wave of lyricists (IE Kendrick Lamar) i guarantee if you asked them what they think of Eminem as a lyricist they'd say he's :lawd:

I thought Recovery was good. Not as good as his older shyt, obviously, but still enjoyable.

I'll be interested to hear his next album. If he tries to do a "Not Afraid" again for the first single, he's gonna be done.

I thought it was his best album since the Eminem Show. :ehh:

Can't believe people think Relapse and/or Encore is better. :wtf:

That stupid accent completely ruined Relapse, and Encore was was straight up ass (no, I mean it's literally ass...dude spent most of the album making fart jokes and shyt). Recovery shyts on both of those.

Just watched the "Not Afraid" video for the first time in ages.

I still can't keep a straight when it gets to that part where he starts singing lullabies when he is breaking down that brick wall.

Recovery is not his strongest record. haha you just figured it out. Em still has game though, i don't doubt it.

Not Afraid video is redonk, but the song is actually something I can understand for my own reasons.
