...."Is your current job needing any notice before you commit to a position?" or a variation of the question :patrice:Been at my current job for about 3 years now and I've had a couple positions call me and ask me this and I always say, " well, yes, 2 weeks....:lupe:" but they usually need a person to start immediately. How is the best way to answer this....I have no idea and its "cost" me about 2-3 positions over the last couple months

Offer to work there part time until you are able to leave your current job respectfully. Or change your schedule at your current job or talk to your boss.

nikka you are thinking too hard. Just shutup and learn game, fam. If another job offers you a position and asks if you can start immediately, you say yes. You know how many people don't put in their two weeks notice? Lie and leave. Worry about yourself. Fuk your other job.

So u didn't learn after the first time
Tell them u can start immediately
fukk your current job if u looking for another one nikka

This kinda wack advice is the difference between career minded people and job minded people.

If you are in your career you need to give that two week professional courtesy. It will get around eventually that you don't if you don't and you'll find it harder to get interviews after a while.

And this is coming from someone who has held management positions.

The other job prospects must not have been appealing enough. You're too comfortable with your current job or your current job got you thinking like a slave.

I would phrase it gently. Ask how soon they would like to have you and thaf you would like to give your current job enough time to rebalance their responsibilities so you don't leave them in a bind. If they need you right away, you can ask if they would mind if you proposed to your current job that you can help out on nights and weekends temporarily and/or take a day or two to help train a replacement.

I did this in my most recent job change and both sides appreciated that I asked. Double dipped with the pay too :win:

If you are too willing to just get up and leave with no coverage, they will know you would do the same to them one day.

If you want to give two weeks and the new job isn't for it, then that's not the new job for you.
I wondered how to handle the same situation and usually carried this mindset, if they don't respect me putting in a 2 weeks notice then they'll try to get over on me with some other bullshyt once I work for them

NEVER BURN BRIDGES. I'm in a job right now I got based on a recommendation from some dude who was an a$$hole but I treated professionally. You never know when you need someone's old recommendation.

2 weeks isn't the law, it's a standard of respect for a former employee. If you cut it short, everyone there will look at it like disrespect.

No it isnt....he's only been on the job 3 years and he's already looking for another one....if the pay is more when they ask if he can start immediately then he should start immediately and quit the other job....has nothing to do with that career bullshyt...it's about who is paying more and who has the better perks....shyt is cut throat out here bruh...

2 weeks out of respect. Might be a trick question to see if you'd do the same to them if they hired you and another company came into the picture. 2 week notices has always worked towards my benefit. No burned bridges, and no previous employer ever badmouthed me either.
