Apparently one must spend 3 month's salary on an engagement ring. That is absolutely out of the question for me. The money can be invested or put towards a wedding. My girl is cool with that. My question is how do yall figure out much to spend? Personally will never understand spending 10s of thousands on a piece of jewerly but I been going back and forth between, the smart purchase and the "make her happy" purchase.

I would buy a ring that was meaningful and practical instead of it's costing me a boat load just so she can brag to her friends.

I'm one of those weird ones that wants anything but a diamond. A diamond is so unoriginal to me. So many women are walking with big diamonds on their hands.

Of course the ATL
My first question to you would be what's most important to you? Color, cut, clarity or carat for the ring

Once you figured that out I would go to the closest Tiffany & Co near you and get your ring

well if you were to subscribe to the school of thought that you spend 3 months bread on a ring, then I would also think you would subcribe to the traditional thought about how the woman's family pays for the wedding :manny:

breh you better not spend that much on a damn ring

And please tell me that's the cost of the whole bridal set :wtf:

Just the engagement ring. Wedding ring is another 1-2K

Am I crazy then? Is it because of affordability or it's just way too high? I got the dough

Cut and color. Wifey want one of the pricier styles cuz not only is the diamond in the middle, but it's got the diamonds around it. She has expressed that she would take anything so she not hunting for a big rock, I'm just trying to figure out what I need to get.

Tiffany's? :what:

The engagement ring is the smaller ring. She's not Kim Kardashian and you're not Kanye so a huge rock for an engagement ring then another huge blingin set for the wedding band is out of the question IMO.

You should get a simple band for an engagement ring, spend about 2k on it, then "upgrade it" for the wedding. You would still want to get quality because you don't want cheap where the stones fall out but 10k is a little much.

Then explain to her that later down the line you'll upgrade as anniversaries happen but now instead of spending 10k on a ring when she's getting a bigger one for the wedding day plus the money spent on the wedding (if ya'll are coming out of pocket for it) will be a bit much at once.

I think that's way too high. Imo you gotta treat the ring like you do dating. You start out dating with small inexpensive dates to get to know someone and build from there. You get a very nice ring for half of that and then upgrade after 5 years - if yall still together. Don't set the bar too high for yourself. You could end up getting divorced after two years and you just threw 10k down the toilet
