One more reason to buy your diamond separately and from a reputable jeweler. Take a look at this link and look at the ASET Images. You ask for the ASET image of a diamond in the mall and they wont know what you talking about. A jeweler will show you the images so you can see how the stone returns light, the most important aspect of a diamond.

Precious Diamonds - Diamond Light Performance - How to Measure & View

Heard that some of the online spots are pretty good too like James Allen and blue Nile. Thoughts?

Blue Nile is better than the mall and Jared's but ive read mixed reviews on them. Your best bet for quality is James Allen and Brian Gavin. They will definitely send you the images i referenced above. Dont buy a stone if a jeweler cant provide you with those.

I don't know your finances but get her a reasonable ring now(5 to 8k) and then after y'all been together for 5 years or 10 then splurge on the upgrade. The marriage isn't the ring but you want to get your future wife a ring she can be happy to wear. Good luck.

:mjlol: How we let diamond companies trick us into giving them thousands of dollars off GP? Most us wouldn't let our girl hold $1000, but, we breaking Debears off to "make her happy."

I got a few questions.

My girl doesn't really care if the ring is platinum or gold. But I always figured platinum was the better buy because it's more durable but after some research it seems that it has some cons vs gold. Apparently gold is shinnier and doesn't scratch as much? What are your experiences with platinum vs 18K gold?

I swear this is harder than buying property.

Based on what I know about your finances u seem good for 2-3 carats. That should be like 5K

Probably wouldn't hurt to take her to the jeweler to see what she actually likes.

Congrats :salute:

:what:

you not getting a 2-3 carat single stone for 5k

Cheapest 2 carat stone on bluenile is 9k, and the color/clarity/cut arent special

How much time do you have? If you have a few months try to find a diamond broker and buy the stone and setting separately. You can also try a really nice pawn shop but just make sure you have the ring appraised. If you're going to a retail store, you may as well just bend over and let them fukk you.

Spend want you can afford. If the ring will make you postpone your future plans/investments don't buy it. Round cut diamond are the most expensive per carat but they appear bigger than other cuts and have more fire(bling). Cushions are a classic cut but imo not as good as rounds. It is best to buy the diamond before the ring. Jewelers don't get good deals on loose diamonds and will up charge you. Check out bluenile.com for loose diamonds. The big things to look for besides the 4 Cs are spread(diameter of the stone) and cut. You can have .8 ct stones that look bigger than 1ct stones because of the spread. Cut is important too because that is what makes your diamond sparkle. Spread and cut are the most important to me because the human eye can pick up on those more so than color and clarity. For complete rings check out Costco they have a wide selection for all budgets. Search Results:

No, breh. Just... no.

It's ugly.

Get something under 5k, stylish, but classy.

Breh you spent 60k on an engagement ring. Believe me NOBODY wants your advice.

:dead:

I meant the fact that @-DMP- left me off the happily married brehs list, not that I wanted to tell him what to spend :russ:

Im also pretty well versed in shopping for diamonds in general so happy to help if breh has any questions.

So I found one of the bigger wholesalers in the city and got a pretty good offer. 50-70% cheaper than where I was looking. I have opted for 18K over platinum since platinum isn't all that great apparently.

Breh Platinum doesn't tarnish or wear out and is an extremely durable metal. It's also looks better against a diamond. Platinum is also a rare metal...what about that isn't great? BTW, did you ever go to Tiffany?

18K gold in an engagement ring will tarnish and wear off over time (keep in mind that your fiancé will wear her ring daily so you don't want a ring wear the metal will wear and lose its luster)

These prices are hilarious! We spent about $700 on our entire wedding set and we're replacing them this year (our 10th) with tats. fukk wasting money on metal and rocks. If anyone "needs" an expensive ring, do not marry them.
