Of course the ATL
you kidding, 2-3ct for 5 racks? Lol 5k wouldn't even cover the taxes.

You could get a 2-3 ft cloudy stone that doesn't shine for that much. Like I said when you're ring shopping you have to decide what's most important for you with that purchase

I paid $200 for my fiancee's ring and I told her if she doesn't like it, she can find another dude to marry

This. My wife still wears the $99 band we bought in college 12 years ago. She's woke though and understands the arbitrary value placed on a dumb rock made possible by blood and centuries of free labor. Black ppl blowing money on a diamond is the epitome of financial illiteracy.

How much time do you have? If you have a few months try to find a diamond broker and buy the stone and setting separately. You can also try a really nice pawn shop but just make sure you have the ring appraised. If you're going to a retail store, you may as well just bend over and let them fukk you.

Sound Reasoning
Apparently one must spend 3 month's salary on an engagement ring. That is absolutely out of the question for me. The money can be invested or put towards a wedding. My girl is cool with that. My question is how do yall figure out much to spend? Personally will never understand spending 10s of thousands on a piece of jewerly but I been going back and forth between, the smart purchase and the "make her happy" purchase.

:mjcry::sadcam:

Five figures on a ring? On a situation that could end the next day or next year over a disagreement or change of mind?

No, I would spend maybe a few thousand....capped off at $5000 at the max. Especially since many men finance this purchase and pay for it like a car note. You'll most likely still have your car by the time you pay it off. There's a 50/50 chance that you may not still be engaged by the time you pay off that $10,000 ring you bought. People break up everyday.

Plus, I don't know how it works in Canada, but don't give her the ring on her birthday or a holiday. Legally, that makes it a gift, which means if the engagement doesn't work out, she's has the right to retain the ring even if it was given contingent upon the engagement leading to marriage.

I'm debating this myself, but I know for a fact that I won't spend more than $2000-3,000 for a ring.

Peace

1st thing first you need to figure out is what size center diamond she is comfortable with and when i say size i mean dimensions, not carats. Thats going to be the bulk of your purchase so start there. Im assuming you have a quality lady so you arent going to get her one of those cheap ass cluster rings. Anyone saying you should get a 2-3 ct center stone has no idea how much a 3 ct center stone runs, ignore them.

The reason i say dont focus on carats is because im looking at the jeweler i bought my diamond from website and he has a .838 ct cushion ideal cut VS1 H color diamond for $3,586 and a 1.016 ct cushion ideal cut VS1 H color diamond for $6,585. The dimensions for the 1st diamond are 6.3 x 5.63 x 3.76 and the second diamond is 6.55 x 5.87 x 4.0. Now a lot of women off top are going to say they want at least a 1 ct center stone just because they feel like anything smaller isnt floss worthy, and the jewelers know this. Thats why there is such a huge jump in prices between diamonds that are just under 1 ct and diamonds that are 1 ct. You know your girl better than me but I can reasonably assume she cant tell the difference between 6.3 mm and 6.55 mm from a foot away so you know damn well nobody else is going to be able to glance at your wife finger and see the difference.

So once you find out what general size diamond you wife wants get an ideal/excellent cut diamond with those dimensions. Dont fukk with a fair, good, or very good cut, you want an ideal/excellent cut diamond, preferably an AGS graded ideal cut. Oh another thing, if its not AGS or GIA graded, dont buy it. The first thing that will draw attention to your wife's ring is not the size of the diamond its how much it sparkles and attention is really what she wants. My wife's ring gives off light like a damn disco ball and women are always coming over to her to say how great it is. I really had never seen a diamond sparkle that much until i saw hers.

You arent going to walk into the mall and get the type of diamond im talking about so check out some online retailers like Brian Gavin Diamonds, James Allen Diamonds, or Whiteflash.

As far as clarity goes you dont want anything worse than VS2 and shoot for color H or better.

Long story short my advice is buy the diamond and ring separately, make sure you spend the bulk of the money on buying the best center diamond you can. The halo diamonds around the center diamond arent expensive at all so dont even worry about that. If you want some info on anything else let me know. I spent about 5K on my girls ring and it was custom made by my design so you can get something really nice if you do the research.

First things first, stay away from all mall chain jewelers (Kay, jareds, zales, etc, etc) they're all owned by the same company, a ripoff and will sell you the worst diamonds possible. Even I'm the description of their stones say I1-2

You can get a nice GIA certified VS1 for around 5-6k, of course the cut and color will greatly effect the price.

This is a GIA 1.05 ct, H color. It was around $5,500. Still shots don't do it justice, but in person, outside of a SI won't matter unless you look through a loop but color and cut is noticeable when put next to a better stone

Heard that some of the online spots are pretty good too like James Allen and blue Nile. Thoughts?
