On Jericho's podcast Bischoff said that Bret suggested taking the WWF belt to WCW, Bischoff shut that idea down, then Bret asked him "what if they ask him to drop the belt" again telling him to drop it, it's not a big deal, the which belt doesn't make him
knew it all along; there was NO WAY that vince was gonna risk it after HE did it to NWA / WCW and Ric Flair, AND alundra did it to him.

I am certain bret would've done it.

I don't know if it's true or not because so many stories have been told about Montreal.

But @Public Enemies actually brings up valid points of why Bischoff wouldn't let Bret do it. The Alundra shyt went down and set a precedent of how companies handle superstars coming in from rival promotions. I still think WCW got fined for the Women's Title fiasco, but imagine what would've happened should Bret had showed up with the WWF title. He did a lot of slimy shyt to one up Vince but even he wouldn't risk handing Vince a truck load of money on a silver platter due to competitive pettiness.

Watching
After what Rude and Jarrett pulled, Vince had the 30-90 day clauses put into people contracts. So being willing to sue over this isn't far-fetched.

But he had Madusa throw the women's title in the trash on live tv, was he not worried about the legal ramifications then? :what:

He had Hall & Nash pretend like they were invading from the WWF until Vince filed a lawsuit in court.

Bischoff was not afraid of any lawsuits especially with Turner's money backing him.
That's the exact reason Bischoff didn't want to do it due to getting sued over the Madusa shyt. He's said as much since it all went down that he couldn't have done shyt with the belt regardless. I think this shyt about Bret Hart is some bullshyt though. If that was the truth he knows how rabid people are over the Montreal Screwjob so he would've included that info in his book.

If he truly had people to answer to, we wouldn't have seen that mess they rolled out every Monday for the last year or two of WCW's existence

Those people don't even watch though. Just see numbers. But when a lawsuit comes in all eyes are on him.

Eric Bischoff probably wanted Bret Hart to bring the E's belt to WCW with him. Back then he was doing whatever it took to run Vince and the E out of business. I read what the OP's posting of what Bischoff was saying with the :aicmon:face. That dude is full of shyt and trying to spin how he fukked up Bret Hart's intro into WCW.

Anyone who believes Bischoff here has to be either the markiest of marks or just hates Bret THAT much.

Bret's contract didn't start until December 5th that year; he still had another month to drop the belt (and, if I remember correctly, he actually asked Bischoff to push his start date back just in case he needed to drop the belt at the next PPV). Also, he was continually contributing suggestions to get the belt off of him before his WCW contract started, as long as he didn't get beat by Michaels (and given that Michaels flat out said that he wouldn't lose to him after Bret tried to clear the air, he was justified in doing a whole lot more than just not losing to Michaels). People keep talking about Bret possibly breaching contract and making a legal mess out of the Screwjob, when they fail to understand that VINCE was the one who actually breached contract by screwing Bret out of the title (violation of Bret's creative control clause) and could have caused real problems for the WWF had Bret chosen to pursue that course of action.

Also, by all accounts except Bischoff's, it was BISCHOFF that wanted Bret to bring the title to WCW and Bret refused.

These are accounts both contributed and confirmed by multiple sources, rather than Bischoff's fantasies regarding the issue. Stop listening to whatever jackass decides to open their mouth about the Screwjob and start reading and watching (I swear, people act as if Wrestling With Shadows just doesn't exist or something) the extant accounts of the situation. Maybe annoying threads like this would stop getting made.
