hell no we aint had no dj at lunch... we just bagged some butter crunch cookies, juice/soda,and just had freestyle or snappin/roastin sessions. that was our entertainment.

Man, when I was in high school we had a Holocaust survivor come speak to us in an assembly. To this day I've never been so ashamed to be a part of a crowd in my life. Dudes had no chill that day

And what their parents aren't listening to. I'm was surpised to know my son listens to Marvin Gaye, which is before my time. But I love older R&B, and use to play the hell outta old school hits.

Badu came on in the whip this weekend and my son (age 11) was like laughing at her and calling her garbage.

I was 11 or 12 when she dropped and was a fan, most the people I was fans of made "adult music". Realistically, there is something about this generation that doesn't appreciate older music and/or various forms of black music outside of hip hop and the thuggery passing for r&b. It could be because their parents probably mostly listen to hip hop whereas my parents were raised on r&b/soul from the 60's-80's so i therefore had a broader exposure to music, but i don't see that exposure for this generation, which sucks since there is much more access to music.
I DJ and substitute teach. Kids today ain't even trying to hear music from this time last year. It's all about the latest songs to them.
I might play a track like "Put On" Jeezy ft Kanye, these youngster will look at you crazy and ask if you like the latest song with a dance. It's a new day. Kids today don't give a shyt about the past.
I bet a lot of artist are getting this same treatment all around.
