no team in the modern era beat ranked opponents by a wider margin. they hung 59 and 65 on top 15 Syracuse and UDub teams. 33-7 on a good Penn State team. beat highly ranked FSU by 21
@ losing the Orange Bowl not mattering. if for logistical reasons only that was a huge deal
The bolded is patently false:
2013 FSU beat ranked teams by an average 33.6, and 2001 Miami beat ranked teams by an average 32.8, and I don't think 2013 FSU is the Goat. This was me just doing the averages of Miami and FSU real quick because I knew that shyt didn't sound right. I'm sure if I went back and did 95' Nebraska and '72 USC and others SOME would surpass 2001 Miami's average as well versus ranked opponents.
The part about the OB is a red herring. They had the OB for awhile after 2002 and proceeded to get worse and worse. Hell, they unceremoniously closed the shyt out getting skunked 48-0. Basically, if the 2001 Miami team had to play in Sun Life, the AstroDome, Lincoln Financial field, a cornfield, etc. Logistics and all, I'd bet everything I own they wouldn't go no damn 6-6. You make the stadium. The stadium doesn't make you.
