Not a good speaker...ok. Granted the Texas job in many ways is like being the leader of a political party, and you need to make connections to win HS recruits, coaching talent, etc...but ultimately Strong's job is to win football games. If he does that, no one will give a shyt about his bad speeches except boosters.
except boosters.....the same boosters who are still scorned about being left out of the coaching search...the same boosters who spend the money to build first class facilities....the facilities that recruits these days put heavy emphasis on. connect the dots....

Interesting times in University of Texas athletics.

There are four major fund-raising projects being talked about by Steve Patterson:

* $15 million for a new tennis stadium/facility because the current one (Penick-Allison) is being demolished June 1 to make room for construction of UT's new medical school.

* $250 million for renovation of the south end of DKR and additional premium seating throughout the stadium.

* $350 million to endow all the athletic scholarships at Texas

* $450 million to replace the Erwin Center in roughly 5 years, because it too will be demolished to make room for the UT medical school. (The pricetag on a new arena is so steep most believe it will end up a public-private partnership involving the city and county.)

The No. 1 priority on that list is the $15 million for a new tennis center. It will take a year to build. So the current plan is to resurface 10 courts at the school's intramural tennis facility at 51st and Lamar, have the men's and women's teams play there for one year (2014-15) and then have a state-of-the-art tennis facility that could host major tournaments - pro and college - including the NCAA Championships.

Here's the problem: Less than 1 percent has been raised for the new tennis facility. And sources say ground won't be broken on the new facility until at least $10 million has been raised.

If that $10 million isn't raised by July, the one-year build out would extend into the 2015-16 school year and could keep the tennis programs at Texas, the highest revenue-producing athletic department in the country, on 10 resurfaced courts at UT's intramural facility.

The bottom line is Steve Patterson and the Longhorn Foundation is either getting almost no response to their fund-raising efforts or isn't trying nearly hard enough.

Patterson hasn't returned numerous calls, texts or emails from me to talk about an array of subjects and his communications director Nick Voinis has repeatedly ignored/rejected my attempts to get Patterson on the radio.

Sources say Patterson has alienated some big-money donors because of his lone ranger work style. Those sources say the only thing that could change the minds of donors going forward would be Charlie Strong winning big in football.

No pressure Charlie.

Charlie's not a great public speaker. And thus ppl like that tend to ramble their words quickly to get thru their speech, nor do they want to stick around chit-chatting. None of that stuff matters on the field tho and won't matter much in the long run, whatever the outcome.

All that being said.....

I've never wanted to see another Black man fail so bad in my life. :demonic:

I'm almost ashamed of myself :wow:

Almost.

I gotta give yall props on the facilities renovations yall just announced. Texas is starting to fall behind in that regard and these old cacs are too scorned to give a shyt about it. Strong has people wishing for his failure on multiple fronts.

I need to go hit up Landthieves b/c I havent been following that stuff....

But what reasons(besides good ol racism) would some people down there be wishing for Strong to fail?

These are just the first rounders under Stoops:

Roy Williams
Tommie Harris
Jamal Brown
Mark Clayton
Davin Joseph
Adrian Peterson
Sam Bradford
Gerald McCoy
Trent Williams
Jermaine Gresham
Lane Johnson

There is no comparison between Stoops and Strong.

The boosters have HUGE egos. When you have your name on buildings everywhere on campus it makes these people think they should be consulted on everything. Their whole adult lives, they've been THE decision maker on everything. Patterson came thru and ignored all of them, now he's begging them for money lol. I think these boosters have convinced themselves that if things go bad they can change the AD and coach within 3 years...maybe even 2 years b/c the fanbase is on edge right now.

mack brown was a horrible coach for like the past 10 years, strong got the worst gig possible. Tyrone willingham x 10000

yup but he's a kewn and took it. Just like Tyrone Willingham. There's no way I would pass up a good thing at UL and go to Texas as their like 10th choice and unrealistic expectations for success.

nikkas gotta start being smart about these jobs they take. Ty Ty still hasn't recovered from the ND debacle. :wow:

You can say that, but Strong has like $25 mil guaranteed at texas.

He'd have to coach at UL a LONG time to get that...and even then he he'd likely NEVER get another Teddy B to make him look great.

If he gets fired at texas, he's got a good resume and can get another head job somewhere smaller.

Ty Willingham messed up after ND by going winless at Washington.

I mean it depends on what you value most breh. If it was me I'd stay with the less stressful job and build on my pedigree. But then again, who am I do scoff at $25M?

Yeah, I get your point but like I said(I edited my post), he'll likely never get a QB like Bridgewater again. And arent they moving to a real conference? There goes those 10 win seasons.

LEss stressful, lower expectations...sure. But coaching is an unfaithful biz from the adminsitrations to the coaches themselves.

If Auburn gave Saban enough $$$ he'd probably go there, if texas gave Stoops enough money he'd probably go there
