Well you do have to consider the roster sizes. Getting $20 mil a year as 1/53rd of a roster ain't the same as $20 mil a year as 1/15th. It's apples to oranges in regards to individual salaries. IMO it's more fair to allow teams and players to get out of bad deals and to allow guys to make whatever they can negotiate and teams to pay whatever they deem reasonable rather than a predetermined amount.
In the NFL these guys can't get out of bad deals but the teams can and that's not fair to me. In my opinion if you want me to play for you, give me a certain amount of money over a certain time and if you don't want to pay then I'll take my talent to the team that guarantees the most.
. If you are good/impactful enough you can get out of a bad deal as a player. That is why I say it's fair. You get it how you live. Everybody can't live the same way though
