The Spurs had George Gervin, Artis Gilmore, and David Robinson, they at least had conference Finals appearances and 60 win seasons before Timmy. In fact they got Timmy because D-Rob missed the season with injury, they was "contenders" before him.

Cleveland was known for this...and no team from that city had won in 52 years until LeBron brought a title to the city last year.

And remember San Antonio had a really bad reputation around the league and with fans as being soft and choking

DRob was aging too, they had just traded Rodman for Perdue, after DRob back injury they were in trouble cause DRob wasn't gonna be the same MVP caliber player.
