i remember hearing the Jay Takeover diss from a friend of mine.he came to my house and played that song for me in his car.i told him "Nas is too lyrical for Jay Z he fukked by dissing Nas".i read the first Nas diss in The Source mag.i wasnt computer savy back then so i didnt get to hear what was really goin on with the Nas and Jay beef.then i brought Stillmatic cause i liked the song "Got yourself a gun".i was rollin home listening to the album and Ether came on.i had to park my car out of fear of crashing cause Nas was straight DESTORYING Jay Z on that song.i sat parked in my car and listened to that song about 5 times in a row before i could pull off.

I remember when Ether first hit SOHH. Honestly, I was surprised. Wasn't expecting it, even though I think he was hinting at something hard on that Stillmatic freestyle. Lyrically it had some good lines, but the biggest thing was that Jay was Ja Rule status then*. I was disapointed in the beat. The other diss to Cormega and Nature seemed way more etherous at the time.
