Jay rises to the top of NY Hip Hop & self proclaims himself the God MC plus NY’s King. A lot of artist takes offense to that..
Jay drops the Takeover basically saying that “ I will not lose” & sets out to destroy Nas & Prodigy … Saying Nas was washed up and trash. Needing to stop dropping knowledge and switch up and sellout just like he did… Jay finally admits this on BP2 “I dumb down to double my dollars” Jay-Z hence Nas “You sold your soul for riches” how can you dispute this when Jay admits it himself.
Blueprint drops with a classic rating so Jay is on top of the world. Dropping personal songs like “Song Cry” where he basically admits that girls called him ugly until he got money. This shows the deep hurt he has behind that treatment. Nas “ Were you abused as a child scared to smile they called you ugly” & “You think you getting girls because of your looks” These are childhood scars Jay has… That hurt dude or he wouldn’t have mentioned it in “Song Cry” & it explains his treatment of woman slash Carmen issue Nas said “her weakness was shine”….Again Nas uses Jay against himself. Jay feels underappreciated in ”Heart of the City” wants people to like him but they chose Nas..

Meanwhile Nas’s career has only gone up and he’s still dropping knowledge and carrying the torch for NY hip-hop without selling out. It's wild because that's arguably Nas weakest song lyrically but his most impactful one by far. He was the proverbial David defeating Goliath on some sneak shyt. Jigga was on top of the world and Nas just came through and shut shyt down. Had that man on the radio whining, had him put a diss that seemed liked a bytch move in retrospect. Jigga thought he was gonna use that info about him and Carmen to his advantage and it ended up backfiring on him. Even had Jay resorting to Austin Powers voices and shyt on the BP2. But to me what really hurt Hova was when Last Real nikka Alive dropped. That was the truest song out of them all to me.
