Blacks weren't migrating from all across the country for nothing. It was a reason why a cluster of writers, musicians, dancers, actors, businessmen and poets formed there Obviously racism existed and blacks have more opportunity now. Doesn't mean that era wasn't a special time to be living in.

how is it more special than this era? not as much racism, cellphones, internet. the ability to hook up with whomever you want w/o fear of being lynched. cultural variety. real opportunity to be sucessful and wealthy. heated toilet seats. cheap and efficent air conditioners. i could go on forever. but you can go back to drinkin from the blacks only fountain if ya want to

I'd liked to have grown up in the 80s but romanticising the past is a dangerous hobby brehs - everybody faced some kind of issue and assuming that 'life was easier back then' is far from the truth.
