it's not even that. I started branching out to other genre's and metaphorically crate digging on the internet for music my senior year of highschool going into college.

if somebody is stuck on a very narrow music sound within a single genre I just assume they don't like music like that. they ride the wave of what's hot. I can see how it'd be a bit of a turnoff if all somebody listens to is artists with the trap sound.

I feel like my taste in music is nigh flawless. I fukk with some NBA Youngboy. I like some Future. I like some DaBaby. But I'm eating dinner right now playing some Alice Coltrane. In short...I like a variety of shyt...but the shyt I love is often the shyt that rounds out my musical taste. Good music is good music.

On the real though, I have a very diverse taste in a wide spectrum of genres and I’m a musician from genres of classical, to hip hop, to electronic. Even if I don’t like a certain genre or a song, I can find elements of things that I like or appreciate. The vast majority of mainstream music (although I admittedly do like very little of it) is repetitive, non-challenging to a listener, and literally catered to the lowest common factor of the masses. Even if a chick rocks wit music I don’t listen to, I have a very open ear and mind for music I haven’t heard and actively seek to like music, but it’s hard to do that with mainstream music because of the reasons I just gave you.

My dad mainly listens to Prince, MJ, David Bowie, Bob Marley, Sade, Pink Floyd, etc. A lot of classic R&B, Funk, and some Rock. A bit of Nas and Pac. My mother listens to Gospel, Neo Soul, Anita Baker, Sade, Phyllis Hyman, etc. My older sister mainly focused on Usher, Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, Missy, Mary J. Blige, Outkast, Kanye, etc. So I wasn’t being exposed to anything too raw on a constant basis or music you couldn’t play on the radio, BET, Vh1, etc. So
I can’t even compare the radio friendly, mainstream Wayne I knew to Youngboy.

A Milli is also far greater than anything I’ve ever heard from Youngboy.


But yeah, the degenerate and unintelligent parts of rap have never been regular listening music for me.
