Read The Prince, then read Discourses on Livy. You'll soon come to understand that Machiavelli is the philosopher master troll. Dude's work is :wow:

tried to read The Prince, but it thoroughly disgusted me. I feel like I don't need a book to teach me how to be a selfish prick

Loved The Prince. A lot of the ideas are simplistic but still applicable today. People don't change and thus are easy to figure out.

Did people not figure out what the Prince was in context? It's partially mocking the Medici on what is essentially his own job application for them. It's not a moral ruleset that he ascribes to. READ the discourses. The book is satire IMO. It exists to promote Republican government.

the prince is a 16th century originator of shyt like 48 laws of power and other shyt that will help you understand the mind of elitist power brokers. it's information that when applied correctly will help you maneuver through the matrix, but if applied incorrectly will lead to your own demise.

in other words, let it help you decipher the actions of others, but do not let it influence YOUR actions on a personal level.

please people, keep yourself separated from the actions of the beast or you will suffer the same fate.

I think it's an acknowledgement that if the Italian guild republics wanted to survive (i.e. resist the "barbarian" kingdoms to the north, especially France and the Holy Roman Empire) the hey needed to get their shyt together and start acting in the practical interest of the state.

He was in favor of republicanism, but recognized that they couldn't survive any other way.
