OP is right. The avg man aint trying to do all that. And before somebody comes in here saying some ignorant sht like “im not afraid of gay people” , you gotta keep in mind that the term homophobia has nothing to do with the suffix phobia like in other words (for example agoraphobia or acrophobia), but actually means a “dislike” of gay people In modern lexicon.


if you are not actively or willingly associating with a person, object, or idea then that behavior encompasses “dislike” of it.




And lemme preface that by saying i am perfectly comfortable admitting that gays have been discriminated against and i dont think they should actively be persecuted for existing; but despite all that; i cant shake a certain feeling bordering between discomfort or disgust when im with them. i personally dont hold any particular animosity toward gay people and have no intention of harming them or depriving them of resources , but i sure as fck am not trying to be friends with them and hang out. It is what it is. I like to think of myself as a product of my era. We were socialized a certain way.




I think this will change in the future with zoomers. In my own lifetime, ive seen a gradual shift among men from outright hostility to a “i dont care what people do among themselves” and a subtle acceptance of gays. So id imagine general favorability is the next step for the zoomers and their future offspring.
