OP are you 40+? I can’t even say you’re closeted or something because I feel most ol’ heads and a lot of aunties are the majority of people that can’t accept another person’s sexuality that doesnt mirror theirs.

Worked in an office with a dude that was outted for being in gay porn by another co worker. Dude was on the cover of an adult film. shyt wasn't discreet, he was a pass around on camera. Disturbing shyt
A bunch of us would smoke joints after work. The gay dude would always try to join the cypher. Herein lies the issue. I can be tolerant and all but I refused to smoke with someone that is indiscriminately sucking dikks on their time off. I didn't care how the rest of my co-workers felt. OP is right. The avg man aint trying to do all that. And before somebody comes in here saying some ignorant sht like “im not afraid of gay people” , you gotta keep in mind that the term homophobia has nothing to do with the suffix phobia like in other words (for example agoraphobia or acrophobia), but actually means a “dislike” of gay people In modern lexicon.
if you are not actively or willingly associating with a person, object, or idea then that behavior encompasses “dislike” of it.
And lemme preface that by saying i am perfectly comfortable admitting that gays have been discriminated against and i dont think they should actively be persecuted for existing; but despite all that; i cant shake a certain feeling bordering between discomfort or disgust when im with them. i personally dont hold any particular animosity toward gay people and have no intention of harming them or depriving them of resources , but i sure as fck am not trying to be friends with them and hang out. It is what it is. I like to think of myself as a product of my era. We were socialized a certain way.
I think this will change in the future with zoomers. In my own lifetime, ive seen a gradual shift among men from outright hostility to a “i dont care what people do among themselves” and a subtle acceptance of gays. So id imagine general favorability is the next step for the zoomers and their future offspring.
