About 3 years now. I started when I first got into yoga.

has it had a great impact on your life? do you feel like you can push away any negative thought

just wondering what other people's experiences are. In my experience I can push away worry most of the time. Example If i have a job interview and I feel nervous before I'd end up staying awake all night, after meditating for a few months I could "push" it away and sleep

meditating is keeping your mind very active though

you are actively controlling your thoughts and disciplining your mind to focus on what you want to focus on, instead of unwanted worries and negative feelings

well to me that's a common sense move
that comes naturally to me

sitting indian style humming imagining breathing fire i don't see the point in that
following the patterns of thought laid out by some long dead asian nikkas nah b jahahahahaa

yea see basically the neuroscience behind what you're doing when you shut your mind off is sending inhibiting signals throughout your brain

its hard af I cant even do it but its all about practice and consistency.

Where can I go and learn to "start" meditating

I need to basics, I really want to start doing this.

your body needs a rest period after training,

so why not the mind?

balance is key.

My mind can rest when I'm sleep.
The hell I look like going completely blank, on purpose. :dahell:
Have you any idea how easily you can be controlled/taken over during that period of thoughtlessness? :dahell:
Set yourself up to become demonically possessed brehs  :boss:

there's an overwhelming amount of stuff so my recommendation is to read the book Mindsight by siegel

if you dont have the time i'll tell you what i did and how i learned

originally i was not able to even go 30 seconds without thoughts taking over so I tried a different route of meditation

what I did was I pictured an object (like an orange) and I focused on every single detail of the orange. That way when a thought came in or a worry I had something I can "revert" back to quick and was able to push the thought away by focusing back on the orange

I did this for a few weeks until I got used to the feeling of pushing away my thoughts and seeing myself as the OBSERVER of my thoughts. Not the THINKER (this is important)

after I saw myself as the Observer or overseer, I stopped focusing on the orange (because studies have shown that this form of focused meditation is effective, but not as effective as the zen, no thoughts form)

I focused on nothing, just darkness and my diaphragm breathing. I kinda feel like a central hub with my breathing the center and when a thought comes I push it away quick.

I do this everyday for 15mins and I swear it improves my mood for the rest of the day.

Now lets say Im worried about something like a job interview or a result, I still worry like normal people but Im able to treat it like meditation, I push the worry away and go back to nothingness.

I still got a long way to go though, but I hope this helps

the mind doesn't necessarily rest during sleep. you do dream, etc. you're just not conscious of the process.

thing is, how many thoughts are your own? like a fiend who is trying to quit the habit, his mind may say no, but his body longs for the substance. would you completely take the body's urges as your own thoughts? meditation could help you become more aware which thoughts are your own and which thoughts are "demons" as you state lol

meditation is not resting bruh

meditation is not being blank and braindead

its training your mind to control WHAT you think and you do this by being neutral and pushing away all thoughts

Its the same as taking a dumbbell and holding it straight out infront of you

even though you arent doing a movement, its still a workout, your muscles dont look like they're doing anything but they are focusing on maintaining stillness

my meditation is in motion
only time i rest is to sleep

keep my mind active
rather be positive than passive

being aware of the body's functions isn't being passive though!

you still the mind to come within to the body completely. our minds can become a great hindrance if they're always going. that's energy, thoughts are still energy in less dense form. they can be measured...

again, balance is key!

If you are just an observer, who/what is the thinker and who/what are you? :lupe:

Also, I feel thinking about not thinking (or just observing "non thinking") will make me think more. Tips?

Oh yeah with out a doubt. Right before bed is another great time to meditate. It calms and relaxes you until you fall asleep. It keeps you calm in stressful situations. Getting rid of negative thoughts help ease the mind.

I do 20 minutes before bed for this reason. It also makes me mentally tougher, since I'm sleepy and don't feel like doing it.
