Meditation is the key to happiness in life. It will give you the ability to be in direct control of your mind and body. But this isn't some spiritual thing. THIS IS A SCIENTIFIC FACT.
thought meditation was some religious shyt that only buddhists did as a form of worship.
UNTIL I took a bunch of Cognitive Neurology courses
I'll explain how meditation works but first let me go over a simple process used by our brain.
Lets say you have to take a piss. You feel the urge and you know you have to piss. Lets say there's no washroom nearby. Do you piss yourself? Obviously not you hold it in.
but what exactly does your brain do to hold it in?
Basically the feeling of having to take a piss is your bladder sending excitatory signals up to your brain to make you aware that you have to piss
it expects your brain to send the signal back down to release your bladder and piss. If youre in the bathroom, your brain will send an EXCITATORY signal back down to your bladder to release your piss.
But if you cant take a piss atm, your brain instead sends INHIBITORY signals down to your bladder which not only prevent you from pissing.
It cancels out the excitatory signal of needing to take a piss. What this translates to is being aware that you have to piss soon but not feeling like youre about to piss yourself. This is because the inhibtory signals cancel out most of the excitatory signals.
But eventually your bladder becomes so full that the excitatory signals are just too powerful to inhibit and you start feeling panic af. Eventually the signals are so powerful your brain forces you to piss (this is to protect your bladder from rupturing)
Scientists knew this for a while but recently realized a similar process occurs in your brain when you think or worry.
When you worry a part of your brain is sending excitatory signals to the rest of your brain to make you aware of whatever you are worrying about. The same way our bladder sends excitatory signals to our brain to make us aware that we have to piss soon, parts of our brain send excitatory signals to the conscious area of the brain, to make us aware of worry etc.
So the same way we send inhibitory signals down to our bladder, We can send inhibitory signals to directly inhibit thoughts and urges we dont like through meditation (which is thinking about nothing in other words it is sending INHIBITING signals to all parts of your brain)
but heres the problem.
what does every parent do for kids? they toilet train them. Toilet training is literally training the brain to develop these INHIBITORY signals (WE ARE NOT born with the ability!!) so they can inhibit their bladder. Babies cant do this, it takes practice.
SAME thing applies meditation, we are not born with the ability to inhibit our desires and thoughts. We need to TRAIN ourselves and meditation is the training.
Try meditating you will realize you cannot go more than 2 minutes without "thinking". In reality it means your inhibitory signals are too weak to inhibit the powerful excitatory signals of "thought" or worry. Unlike the bladder which we have been inhibiting for our entire lives, Our thoughts have never been inhibited ever.
Luckily with practice we can develop powerful inhibitory signals.
What does this mean? It means that you can literally make worrying thoughts DISAPPEAR, vanish from you mind. It isn't limited to worrying thoughts, you can make any negative feeling disappear like it doesnt exist.
Eventually with enough practice your brain can send such powerful inhibitory signals that you inhibit the feeling of fatigue
or even pain.
If you want to learn more read a book called Mindsight by siegel.
I know this is LONG AF but it is seriously life changing
