This woman looks like she had a library card and pays her bills on time

I saw it yesterday. I thought it was great. Although King was clearly the prominent figure, I appreciated how they also highlighted other key contributors to the movement. I enjoyed Congressman John Lewis' storyline (I've met him and he is an incredible man who will take the time to speak with anyone). I also appreciate that the film didn't deify MLK. He was a man who did great things with many other great people. I was happy that they didn't turn Lyndon Johnson into some type of white "we shall overcome" savior of blacks.

I know people get tired of seeing "black struggle" movies; however, the men and women who were willing to give life and limb (literally) for future generations of black people DESERVE to have their story told. There are all types of movies that promote white racist as American heroes. This is a film portraying REAL American heroes.

Is going to make me want to go outside and slap a cracker?

Interestingly, I didn't leave the movie pissed. I left feeling fired up. So many of the messages in that movie are pertinent to what's going on right now. If anything, it really just showed that you have to keeping going and pushing forward if you want to make any change. The leaders during that time dedicated years of their lives pushing the government to change things. Everything we're pushing for now in terms of police brutality and income equality will not come easy.

Yeah, it was very realistic

I was gonna be pissed if they made lbj out to be some sort of hero

White people have turned mlk into a deity to manipulate blacks

I loved that they actually addressed that in the movie. They helped push MLK forward so that leaders like Malcolm X couldn't spread his more "militant" message.
