So basically a few months ago an old friend I have that works in HR for my company kind of low-key inadvertently tipped me off that my company was contemplating layoffs and that my team in my department maybe could be affected. So I decided to start looking elsewhere just in case. Not gonna sit around and wait.

I got incredibly lucky with what happened next.

So I didn't get any offers for a couple of months until July. I got an offer from another company with a pretty decent pay increase and I accepted.
In my mind, I was just going to resign and move on, but literally the day after I accepted their offer, I got a random notification for a meeting with my manager and her manager. I was literally crafting a two week notice email to send off.
Next day we get on the call and they have an HR rep on the call too. I knew immediately what was going on. They break it to me that my position is being removed and I'm being laid off.

My company actually is pretty good and HR says I will have 60 days until my position is officially terminated. In that time they said I was still re-hireable elsewhere within the company and that I will still receive my normal pay. But I will have limited access to my computer, no access to the building, and that I will not be completing any work related tasks. :ehh:

The best part was after the 60 days I would still receive my bonus for the year since I worked the full fiscal year, my remaining PTO would be paid out, and I would get my severance pay. So basically I had two full salaries with one job for two months.

So fast forward to the end of the 60 days. I already got my bonus, PTO and severance pay :blessed:

I get a text from my manager asking how I am doing and what's going on. I already told my supervisor, who got laid off too, that I already found a new job prior, so I assume he informed her already. So my ex-manager basically says it would have been nice for me to have told them before they laid me off. She hinted that I was being untrustworthy and deceptive and said that HR may not view me as re-hireable in the future.

Basically she was in her feelings because she would have rather me resigned and forfeited the severance pay, bonus, PTO and paychecks :childplease:
Now I got a better paying job and beefed up the hell out of my savings.

You lost breh. Next time keep your mouth shut and you still would have been hireable. And look at you.

Still here yapping. Ain't learned shyt.

I love a feel good story. We need more stories like this on thecoli. Glad you had someone in HR to warn you. Just think about it. If you sent that email 10 minutes earlier you would had missed out on the bonus, severance, and PTO.

Also to the old company
