Exactly what's wrong with a long engagement (5-10 years)

Why not just stay bf/gf if you aren't getting married for 5/10 years. It literally serves no purpose to be engaged that long

Y'all treat marriage like its a 3 year deal. Marriage is for life., meaning until you DIE

Why does it matter if you rush to get married if you know you're going to be with the person 50 more years?

Then they do about the marriage

My Uncle was engaged for 11 years, and has been married to his wife for 25 now

Compare that to couples who've known eachother for 2 years, engaged for 6 months and married for 4.

5-10 years is rushing it?

I'm married - wife and i were engaged for about a year; guess it depends on the couple - both have to be ready when they are ready (whether its 1 year or 11 years of engagement )

I'm just of the opinion that if the couple want to marry each other, why purposely wait that long (extenuating circumstances aside)?

It's a sign of that because it is. Pretty obvious. U get engaged to someone, u should have a date in mind. If not why get engaged at all?

If you are with someone 6+ years you might as well be married. Either you are going to commit all the way or not. Trying to prolong that just seems like you are unsure and waiting for something to happen so you can get out of it. I don't see the point in asking someone to marry you if you aren't ready to do it then and there. If you aren't, you aren't sure so don't ask.
