The term generational talent is thrown around way too loosely.
Yeah I gotta second this. shyt is so overblown. The generation prospect like 5 years after the other generational prospect, who is actually not better than the dude drafted 10 spots after him, who is actually winning and putting up generational numbers :skip:. It’s so pointless.

The whole a team on the rise has to learn how to win by losing tough playoff series. I feel that narrative is a bit overstated imo. Most instances that rising either needs to improve the roster or coach, get some good fortunate in terms of health, and most importantly their best players perform at their best. This year’s Nuggets team is the perfect example of that. Sure, they are motivated by the bubble loss by the Lakers in 2020, but Jokic and Murray were at their best and they got good production from Gordon, MPJ, and Bruce Brown. Those losses to Suns in 2021 and Warriors 2022 didn’t help Nuggets in 2023 that much.
Its less of a thing now with FA, salary cap, and in turn less continuity. So you dont have the same teams battling every year. Its become more of a thing with individual players (Bron, Kobe, Shaq, Giannis) figuring out those little things needed to get all the way over the hump as the guy. This years Celtics are a definite throwback example. They were every bit as good as the Warriors and actually better overall but the experience and the confidence that comes from having done it before won out. They dont do what they did this year without the experience from the last 2 years.

When a big name player joins a team in New York or the possibility of him playing there is being discussed, the "Can he handle the New York media?" talking points come right away.

Every time.
This might be the worst lol. Folks act like New York is the hardest final exam for an athlete

It all depends on the sport.

NFL? I'd say being a Dallas Cowboy is 10x harder. If you're an elite player for them, even more crazy....and that's with Dallas being "meh" for 28 years. If they're on top, shyt is ridiculous. Nothing in NY compares to that. Dak would get much less hate as a Jets QB.

NBA? Knicks vs Lakers vs Celtics....which one is tougher? I don't see NYC as being clearly harder than the other two. Probably more upside if you win big. Like if Jalen Brunson led the Knicks to a ship, that might be the best place periodt.

NHL? Nothing in the U.S. is topping Canadian pressure/fans.

MLB? Here, I think being a NY Yankee is probably tougher than playing for any other team. If you're a Jeter....the world is your oyster. If you're not good, Paulie from LI will be shyt talking your moms on morning radio.

Old school players would ave 50 in this era. Like breh you didn’t ave 40 in your own era with the illegal defense rule but you gonna get 50 a game when u can get doubled in this era? :wtf:
Its up there with the most ignorant, thoughtless statements in sports. Easily debunked with basic reasoning. To score a lot of points you gotta take a lot of shots regardless of the rules or defense being played. Wilt had to take 40 shots to avg 50 with no zone and he was the greatest physical specimen the sport has ever known.

MJ took 24 shots and 11 FT to avg. 35 ppg in 87. So in order for him to avg 45 he would either have to take 34 shots per game with no dip in efficiency or shoot > 70% :mjlol:.

Same goes for football.

Folks act like in this era Marino and Elway would be making 50 yard bombs for completions on every....single....drive.

Its actually different for football because of how passing volume and efficiency have skyrocketed. NBA scoring leaders been in a certain range of points and shots throughout history save some outliers (Wilt :russ:). Luka avg 34 on 49% shooting last year. Benard King gave you 33 on 53% in 84. NFL is a totally different game now. Volume and efficiency both went through the roof for QBs. Marino was a 59% passer for his career and his high was 64%. Elway was 57% with a high of 63%. Kurt Cousins is at 67% with a high of 70%. When Marino passed for 5000 yds, it was unheard of as 4000 was still a big deal. Now 4000 (even before 17 games) is :manny: and no one bats an eye at 5000 anymore. And they added what equates to 5 NBA games to the schedule too.
