When it comes to boxing, reducing every defensive, counter puncher as a "runner". I really hate the term " Mexican style ". Which is not an actual technical style, but more so a mentality.

I always disliked the false impressions regarding Leonard and Hagler. Hagler wasn’t normally an extremely aggressive pressure fighter or brawler. He fought that way at times (Hearns fight), but was first and foremost a skillful methodical boxer-puncher with good movement. Leonard dancing around, or what some call “running”, wasn’t his usual style either. He boxed like that in certain fights (Hagler, Duran 2-3), but generally was more flat-footed. He was also one of the best finishers ever.

Yeah that narrative of running was started to discredit Floyd, who btw stays in the pocket more than 95% of the fighters.

“Mexican” style basically is a slugfest with no skill and defense. But the greatest Mexican fighters had skill, go figure.

Social media and causal casual “fans” have magnified these dumb narratives.

When a player who’s been on losing teams while putting up good numbers finally makes an all star team and gets into the playoffs, they say “he had to learn how to play winning basketball.” Could be his roster improved and/or they switched coaches :yeshrug:
Yeah that’s dumb. There are so many components into developing a winning team, a player with good numbers needs good teammates, good coaching, good team culture, and good team chemistry.

"Dwayne Wade taught Lebron how to win" is a conjured up talking point used to discredit Lebron.

Yeah being experienced in winning a ring has its advantages over those who haven’t, but “teaching” him how to win is wrong, especially since they lost the 1st year together. :pachaha:
