bro. its toss up.. on one side you have the most dominating force at the center position..

on the other you have the most dominating force at the forward position..

but imagine prime shaq and prime lebron..

lebron would be a 20-20 player and shaq a 40-20 for a good stretch..

cant guard neither on single coverage...

my lord.:whoo:

People are enamoured by the perimeter player that puts up numbers in the typical Triple Double categories... and Lebron's about to average a trip-dub against the Hawks.

There's no quantifiable explanation that proves one over the other, it's just what you find to be more impressive in the end. A 7'2 monster that just can't be stopped, or a 6'8 specimen of speed and strength.

You right Ed... they are on PAR.

Shaq is criminally underrated because people look at him as an underachiever. He gets penalized for not doing what people believe he "could have" done instead of being appreciated for what he actually did.

They're both in my top five. I do probably lean more towards LeBron on an all time career scale but its slanted because we saw Shaq fall off; we haven't seen LeBron's fall off (guys like Jordan and Magic benefit from basically having retired while they were still great players). At their peaks its a damn toss up but I probably take 2001 Shaq over any player ever.

It's all perception to me, can't go wrong either way.

I hate to go all Steve Nash on you here, but IMO LeBron makes his teammates slightly better than Shaq did.

It's close, but I'm giving LeBron the edge. What series has Shaq taken over and advanced without a top 5 Wing? The best player LeBron is playing with right now is an always inconsistent J.R. Smith.

Granted it's Atlanta, but whatever.

LeBron also did this to you Ed:

I dunno Ed, If Bron finds a way to win this one..... :patrice:

You kinda have to place him above Shaq. Shaq never won anything without a prime wing (Kobe and Wade). And he did have a weakness, it just wasn't that bad of a crutch (FT shooting).

I'm still taking Shaq to start a team barely. Only below Cap, Wilt, to me regarding centers.

he spent basically his entire career with one though. Let's not act like 2000 was the result of anyone but him, and 2001 was most definitely him too. Both of those finals he scored around 15-20 MORE points per game while shooting 15-20% higher from the field, in 2001 with the defensive player of the year checking him. We really don't give him the credit we need to.
