#FACT? Tyson Kidd suffers spinal cord injury according to Meltz

As noted, Tyson Kidd suffered an undisclosed injury at the WWE Smackdown tapings a couple weeks ago during a dark match against Samoa Joe. While details of the injury are scarce at this time, the injury is believed to be neck and/or spine related.
According to The Wrestling Observer, WWE officials view the injury as a complete fluke, and there is said to be absolutely no backstage heat on Samoa Joe for the injury. The injury appeared to have taken place after Joe hit his Muscle Buster finisher, which prompted speculation that blame might be placed on Joe, but that is not the case.

Additionally, Steve Austin and Edge both reached out to Tyson Kidd after the injury, as they have both dealt with neck injuries themselves, and in their cases, they were forced to end their in-ring careers.

While it remains unclear as to whether or not Tyson Kidd will undergo neck surgery, if he does, it could keep him out of the ring for up to one year, as was the case with Steve Austin.

Dammit.

Tyson Kidd, who noted on Twitter he will be undergoing surgery this week, the surgery will be the same neck operation that Steve Austin, Chris Benoit and Edge all had. The surgery is expected to keep Kidd out of action for over a year, as the usual return time table from that type of surgery is 14 months.

Unlike Daniel Bryan, Kidd is opting to have full surgery, as opposed to a temporary fix to the injury.

Good on Tyson for going the HBK 100 percent tune up route. damn shame DB didn't do the same. HBK came back and actually completed his career. So I'll be looking forward to a full recovery and return from Tyson.

Injuries are scary. In the WWE, when the outcome is nearly unpredictable, there’s a reason why they tell WWE fans to not try this at home. In an earlier report by the Inquisitr, Tyson Kidd was rumored to be out of action for over a year with a neck injury, similar to the injuries sustained by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Edge.
It all occurred in a match with Samoa Joe before WWE RAW hit the airwaves. In their dark match, Kidd took Joe’s finisher, the muscle buster, and apparently, Kidd didn’t land well on the mat. There’s no clip, but only pictures of the incident, and it didn’t look like anything was done recklessly. Samoa Joe is a very safe worker, as is the former-WWE Tag-Team champion.

After a few years of regaining steam and capturing the respect of the WWE Universe, it’s going to be awhile before Tyson Kidd can hit the mat again. According to E-Wrestling News and Dave Meltzer, Tyson Kidd will be out of action for a long time.

“In an update, Dave Meltzer mentioned on the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that Kidd is having surgery on Wednesday. He would go on to say that the injury is just like Stone Cold Steve Austin‘s and Edge‘s neck injuries.

Kidd is expected to be out of action for the next fourteen months.”

As CM Punk said a few years ago, Tyson Kidd is a workhorse and could out-wrestle a lot of the WWE roster. Not only is Kidd a great guy behind the scenes, but an injury like this could detriment somebody’s career. With his wife, Natalya, by his side, it is going to be a long 14 months for the former champion.

Tyson Kidd will begin physical therapy soon after the surgery, but the real question lies within his status after the operation. Edge said before that he was wrestling on borrowed time after he broke his neck. Until the pain and consequences grew higher, Edge had to retire from in-ring competition.

Another former-WWE champion, Stone Cold, broke his neck and returned to the ring. Austin was able to wrestle again, but one can assume that the broken neck bothered him at times. It’s a severe injury that could’ve paralyzed Tyson Kidd. Now that the WWE Universe knows he is going to get surgery and rehab, Kidd will be back in a WWE ring someday.

WWE Superstar Tyson Kidd recently posted a scary statistic about his near-fatal neck injury on Twitter this week, claiming only 5% of people survive the same injury.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter added to Kidd’s claim, noting Kidd’s claims were correct, and that doctors told him in the hospital that he was lucky to be alive.

Following surgery the doctors told Kidd his injury was so high in his neck that most people would have died, leading to the 5% survival rate stat. They said Kidd survived basically because he was an athlete with such a strong and muscular neck that it saved him.

Kidd was reported to be out of action for at least a year, with no timetable for a return.
