Idk...I'm hearing publishing is worthless and it's about "masters"...man,idkIf I got my publishing I wouldn’t have anything to say about Puff or Bad Boy. What happened is in the past and both sides moved on.

Publishing is not worthless. Taylor Swift owned her publishing as she was a songwriter but not her masters for her first 6 albums. Because she own the publishing she could re-record them and re-release them.Idk...I'm hearing publishing is worthless and it's about "masters"...man,idk
Biggie and Puff make the value jump..
112 gets an honorable mention
Anyone arguing with you about that isn't worth a response

Those Bad Boy artist weren't big enough to get their own masters. From my understanding publishing is owning the original ingredients of the song (lyrics, melody, ect) Owning the masters is owning the original recordings made from those ingredients. Obviously you want to own the masters if possible but you need a level of sway to swing that.
Being a songwriter does not mean you own your publishing. That's where the whole issue gets blurred because people think just because you write, you own the publishing. Publishing is entirely different from writing.
"Puffy is a snake because he took publishing from these poor little kids who didn't know any better". No, breh, publishing costs money. And nobody fresh off the block signing a recording contract is going to be able to just get songs published without knowing the right channels and legal ins and outs of how that process works. And it isn't as simple of registering songs with BMI and ASCAP.
This is pretty standard in the industry though.
They have to decide if shytting on Puff and bad boy is worth more than their publishing to them.

WRONG
THE PUBLISHER GETS 50% OF THE
SONG ROYALTIES AND THE
SONG WRITER/PRODUCER SPLIT
THE OTHER 50%.
PUFFY WAS ALWAYS GONNA GET
50% OF THE PUBLISHING CREDIT
FOR THE WORK THEY DID WITH BADBOY
WHAT HE DID WAS BUY THEIR
WRITING CREDITS FOR
THE REST OF THEIR LIVES
AND HE DID IT BEFORE
THEY PUT ANY ALBUMS OUT
SO THEY DIDNT REALIZE
HOW THEY WERE SCREWING
THEMSELVES.
BIG AND MASE WERE OUT HERE
GHOSTWRITING UNDER THE TABLE
JUST SO PUFF WOULDNT GET
THEIR WRITING ROYALTIES.
PUFF HAS BEEN COLLECTING
WRITING ROYALTIES ON
EVERY SONG THESE ARTISTS
DID GOING FORWARD.
Publishing =/= writing credits. If an artist does not have an established entity to publish their works, they are at the mercy of whatever publishing company their works were published under until they gain control of their publishing.
Not to mention newer cats like MGK, French Montana & Janelle Monae.False.
Mase has huge songs that don't feature Puff or Biggie. Same with Total. Same with 112. Same with Faith.
Are ya'll really familiar with Bad Boy or are ya'll under the impression that Puff and Biggie are the only ones with hits.
ONCE AGAIN...
THEYRE REFERRING TO THEIR
WRITING ROYALTIES WHEN
THEY SAY PUFFY OWNS THEIR PUBLISHING.
YOU ARENT AT THE MERCY OF
ANYTHING IF YOU DIDNT SELL YOUR
WRITING PORTION OF THE PUBLISHED SONG.
THATS A LAYUP WIN IN COURT
You see the paperwork
nikkaS NAIVE AS fukk
IF YALL THINK PUFF GAVE THEM
HIS 50% SHARE OF
THE PUBLISHING OR THE
PRODUCER SHARES HE GOT
FROM THESE SONGS.
PUFF HAD shyt SET UP
SO NASTY...
nikka GOT ALL OF BIGS WRITING ROYALTIES
FROM THOSE ALBUMS AND
MADE SURE TO GET A PRODUCER CREDIT
ON DAMN NEAR EVERY SONG
ON TOP OF HIS 50% PUBLISHING CREDIT.
DUDE OWNED 80+ PERCENT OF
EVERY SONG...
ADD TO THE FACT DAMN NEAR
ALL THE SONGS USED SAMPLES
SO THOSE SAMPLED ARTISTS/PUBLISHERS
GOT A SHARE OF THE WRITING CREDIT
ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER ARTIST
ON THE SONG AND THAT
SHARE THESE GUYS ARE GETTING
BACK IS SMALL AS fukk.
3 nikkaS ON 1 SONG
PLUS A SAMPLED ARTIST
SHARING THAT 25% WRITING CREDIT.
WHEN PUFF OWNS ALL
3 OF THOSE nikkaS
WRITING CREDITS ITS
A DECENT CHECK.
WHEN YOU GOTTA DIVIDE
IT BY FOUR GOING FORWARD
25 YRS AFTER THE SONG
WAS HOT
IT AINT shyt
