nikka, are you dense? :heh: Yes, I bought them on release day. I was disappointed. Thus, I would not buy DLC for games I found lacking. That's the point. @Ciggavelli said he would still buy Fallout DLC even though he was less than impressed with the base game.
he's wrong for buying DLC for a game he said was good, not great?

Yeah, but you're still BUYING the games day one because you bought into the hype. You're still giving these companies money after knowing very little about the final product. You are still contributing to the problem.

The hype lasts months. Everyone is pretty much in agreement that these AAA titles are great, until a few months down the line. I'm not going to wait months. I do my research, read the reviews, and buy the game. If the game is disappointing I'm not going to commit any more money towards it.

Then disappointed is a bit strong, no? I think a lot of people force themselves to justify these purchases. The DLC might be "great" but you should make the base game great before you try to get back in the consumer's pocket.

I think one lesson we can learn from most AAA games is this:DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!

It's hard to curb your own hype though(my hype for a few games this year is palpable) but that's besides the point. Try and just keep blind to a game. Don't read much about it, don't watch videos or footage of it. Just hear it's announcement, watch a clip or two and then when it comes out buy it. Don't read threads about the game where other players are discussing it because one person's GOTF can be "meh" to you.

I noticed the BEST games I've played within the past few years were ALL games that I wasn't really checking for or was hyped about. VERY few games that I was hyped about actually exceeded my expecations(TLOU then again I wasn't as hype for it compared to say Uncharted and)

The BEST games I played that I personally wasn't hyped for yet were special to me in the last few years:

Uncharted 2(I thought UC1 at first glance was garbage and didn't care for it until I got my PS3 and played it. thought it was great and enjoyed it. I went and bought UC2 a few days later and was like "WOWOW WTF!?!? :damn:" game was fukking amazing. MP was addictive. I must've put like 300 hours into it.

Bayonetta 1. Played the demo on a whim. Blown the fukk away. One of the best action games I played. Bayonetta 2 was just as good.

Persona 4 Golden. Downloaded the PS2 vanilla game on a whim and stopped playing it 40 hours later and started over on the VIta version because it was THAT good.

Super Mario 3D world. Piff.com

Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward and the prequel 999.. GOAT visual novel game.

Fine, but companies only see that bottom line, they don't care that you only played their game for 10 minutes and got bored. But as long as there's enough cats that just gotta have AAA games day one, companies will follow the same formula, and we'll get mediocrity year after year. Whether or not you want to admit it, by buying day one you're just as guilty of contributing to the problem.

This is a good point. I got TLOU for like $15 a few months ago. Heard good things about it but didn't really know about it. Was very pleasantly surprised by how amazing it was.

Fallout, I went in expecting Fallout New Vegas with better crafting + settlement building. The exploring was good, but not great. Story is eh (why did they change dialogue options :snoop:). Building was frustrating as hell. I still put easily 100+ hours in it, and a lot of this shyt can be fixed with mods but....still dissapointing.

I mean I guess if you're expecting a "great" game and get a "good" game, that fits the definition of "disappointed". I don't want to get into the psychology of it, but a lot of this talk of expectations, hype, etc, really has nothing to do with the game itself

I put in 180+ hours, over two playthroughs. the game is obviously garbage :troll:

No doubt its going to be the best game in the world to some folks, but i gotta ask you. Whats your history with the fallout series? Steak from a chain restaurant might be the best steak some people have ever had but that same steak dont compare to a steak from a 5 star restaurant whos business is steaks

I dont know if that makes since but what im trying to say is fallout 4 is just an ok game. Its a true 8/10 game.

As a shooter its just good, other games do it better

As a rpg, just good. You have the illusion of freedom and choices but your character and choices are already set in stone. Cant really roleplay.

Open world game, just good not great. See above

As a fallout game? Just good.

Its not a bad game at all. Its just ok and nothing is wrong with that for the casual gamer, but its def not a 9 or 10/10 game

Agreed. I think they tried to do too much with it, but didn't do any one thing really well.

This is coming from someone who loves the IP, and has played almost every game.

how is this true when you have a choice between like four different factions? like I said before, my Railroad and BoS playthroughs were very different. and to be clear, that was two playthroughs, and not me just exploiting a save to see the results of different choices

a lot of time I feel like your level of immersion is something you choose as a player

I understand where you coming from but breh role-playing is more than choosing a faction for different quests. Role-playing is building a unique character thats molds around how you actually play. Here is one opinion out of many that tells me im not alone when feeling like this

Again i have to ask, what is your experience with the fallout series. Fallout use to be one of my favorite games as a kid and now its just meh.
