Was that his best album? No but good album.....when he broke it down with the Electric Circus album shyt had me :ohhh: that wanna make me listen to that album.

It is the album vocally and lyrically he killed but the production is to inacessible.

One Day was the album where Common started making those bad, serious records like that terrible abortion song with Cee Lo. Also Badu reared her head for the first time on the throwaway type Roots song. And that stretch of songs about his grandma getting robbed was always a little strange to me.

There are some great No ID beats on it but it's a 3.5 album that arrived when the game was ready for A CLASSIC.

He scrapped big Illinois, the same day it was to drop.
which I was the record store on release day as i was geeked as hell.
To get the common big Illinois album.
that was supposed to be the album that bytch in you remix was supposed to be on as well.

didn't he rap about Obama becoming president before he even ran tho? I can't remember the song but I know heard it before.

Jadakiss "why? (Remix)" ... "why can't they impeach bush, and elect Obama?"

When the second album of your career is "Resurrection" there's really nowhere to go but down. The only way the odds could be more stacked against him is if it was his first album.

Common is one of the GOATS and slept on. He gave us classics, "one day it will all make sense", "like water of chocolate" and "be". Dude is the truth!!

Although his last albums haven't been up to those earlier levels, that is not surprising given rappers rarely maintain the artistic echelons over that many years. He still has given pure common ether like "Blak majik" and pyramids, meAnwhile acting and promoting other black causes and projects.

His issue is PR, promotion and the lingering bad smell of the crotchet
No and No

EDIT: everything about this post is laughable

:yeshrug: you can only lead a horse to water
Common is not a GOAT and no where near it. He is not a slept on and his PR has been pretty much unrivaled for someone that was making music in the 90s and doesnt have much fan fair these days

I feel like Common is a legend and 1 of the greats and while he's had hits and misses he has enough great material to be certified as 1 of the greats.

I don't view him as a disappointment as he's etched his name in history and in my mind and heart as 1 of the legends and artists that are in a greatest list somewhere.

He's delivered some incredible songs with poetic quality, skill, wisdom, introspection, lyrical, heartfelt, he's paid his dues with his body of work.

I can't take away from him what he's done and achieved though I would rank him higher if he had less misses and more great albums of course.

But if you are top 20 which I believe he is you are a legend and great, there are countless rappers.

I salute and appreciate Common.

I love Like Water For Chocolate but that was the end of the shyt-talking, hoe slapping, scumbag Common that was in all honesty deteriorating by that point.

Electric Circus...let's move on.

Be WAS a comeback and it is a good album...but it's so damn overrated because I think it was a lot of people's first Common album and it was released during the peak that whole Kanye West/Okayplayer/Chappelle Show wave. EC aside, it was still so...soft compared to his previous albums. It was always his 4th best to me and after Black America Again, it's about to be 5th.
It's always driven me nuts how overrated Be is. I actually liked Finding Forever more because I thought its highs were better than Be's.
