The same equilibrium principle applies to the price of labor. Franchise profit margins are only about 10%, they can't support a doubling in the cost of labor.

Personally I would not be surprised if they came out with a McDonalds machine in the next 10 years. The job is as menial as they come.

sure they can...it would just entail a restructuring and streamlining of the direction of compensation, slight adjustments to prices, etc. To act as if McDonalds cannot handle an increase in pay for the handful of employees per restaurant is absurd.

Union for fast food?

Are they ready for union dues? :usure:

That was my first thought when I saw the union thing.

Odd amount to start off with though, 15. I'd be all for a 1 or 2 dollar increase if it improved morale.

lol...you make McDonalds sound like some tiny mom and pop operation that survives on a shoestring budget. Theres plenty of revenue and capital to allow for better compensation for their employees.

Dog, you aint getting it... this is America, capitalism will ALWAYS be king here.

They in business to make money, not to be moral pillars of business...the fukk i look like paying you more money, and bringing in less money.... just so YOU get to live better, when i'm not legally obligated to do so?

it's the same reason that many of these spots only offer health, dental, vision benefits to full time employees... yet they're almost entirely staffed by part time/temp workers.

It wont work. The dollar menu would be eliminated and now you are looking at a situation in where you go to McDonald's and your combo would be $10

People don't seem to understand why they pay so low...a massive pay increase across the whole damn company would be a disaster because who in their right mind will go and pay $10 for a Cheeseburger meal from McDonald's? Not many

The handful :dwillhuh: I would go as far as to say everyone but the store manager is making less than $15 in a franchise, which makes up most of McDonald's employees. In most cases they are making damn near half of $15. You're bugging if you think bringing base pay for everyone up to $15 wouldn't require significant restructuring.

You seem to have a pretty intimate knowledge of McDonalds financials though, so can you lay out how they could pay all their workers $15/hour while remaining desirable for franchise owners and stockholders to invest in?

Yes, this is capitalism, and capitalism works both ways: For ownership and for labor. This isnt slavery, where owners can dictate what American workers earn, arbitrarily, and starve us to death. You earn what you can negotiate. Fast food workers are uniting so that they can earn a livable wage for their families, and they will use every tactic in the book to win that negotiation.

This strategy is as old as organized labor, and when union membership was strong, roughly 50 years ago, middle class families enjoyed far more of the distribution of wealth. Now that wealth goes straight to the top. We have to start fighting back. A win for the fast food labor is a win for all of us. Get familiar.

Would prices really go up though? I'm pretty sure they'd cut hours before raising prices if it came tot that.

I paid $7 for a value meal at Wendy's just yesterday... imagine them having to pay employees nearly double... that price would go up...

I'm convinced some nikkaz in this thread have never even had a job or never ran a business... :heh:

Right....because I need to have access to Mcds books, to be able to judge with pinpoint accuracy whether Mcds corp, which averages 7 billion in revenue a year can handle paying the 2/3 register workers, the drive thru worker, and the 2/3 cooks a few dollars extra in wages.

In and out burger STARTS their employees at 12 hr. out here in Cali. I wonder how they are able to survive?? It boggles the mind. It must be magic!!
