the paying retail workers really well model works for costco because of their yearly membership fees they charge so they can keep their products low margin and choose to treat their workers as an asset. Its a great model. But these fast food franchises are ran by franchise owners not corporate so you can't set a universal wage percentage. I personally would treat my workers as an asset and pay them well if i was ceo of my own company. I would reinvest in my products and staff, i would forego profit in the short term to build a strong brand and strong goodwill for the long term

Makes sense...but in most cases short term gains trump branding, goodwill, and long-term thinking...in the minds of most of these business owners.

what I dont understand is why does costco treat their employees so well, yet sam's club does not? especially knowing that walmart has infinitely more resources at their disposal than costco does.

because there is an abundance of unskilled workers ready to take their place.

lets not act like this ain't a job where if u walk off, they can't replace you with other unskilled workers.

this ain't like when the teachers go on strike. u can't simply replace teachers with unskilled laborers. therefore they have some kinda leverage when they go on strike.
Hiring and firing is expensive and creates inefficiencies no matter the job or business.

But, paying people more will make them take more pride in their job and do a better.

The employees are customer service.

Why are you comparing them to teachers?

These workers just want to be paid above the poverty line.
