shyt crazy. Like Newark and Detroit and Chicago are big on club and house but always contributed in hip hop. even small ass Newark has had a bigger impact than Baltimore.

You wanna know what’s even crazier? I heard that Chicago and Jersey nikkas used to give Hip Hop the :mjpls::what: looks back in the 80’s since a lot of them were more into House music. Even to this day, some of the old heads in both places still be on that Househead vs. Hip Hop head tip. And yet both locations have blessed Hip Hop with some of its greatest contributions to Da Culture ironically.

How bad was Larchmont Ave and Nova Ave. I haven't heard them stamped in the gogos that much

Yeah I think Nova Ave would be at some Junk and Back shows but you right. I was there back in the day day. When Nova Ave was rough and PCP was rampant. I had to walk through those apartments to get to school. There was always some shyt poppin off.

I thought that side of Capital Heights was all residential. I didn't think they had apartments over there. I know about Central Gardens, 1200 and 520 but not too much about Nova Ave and Larchmont ave. How many hoods are in Capital Heights and who did Nova and Larchmont beef with.

That part I couldn't tell you. I was a youngin when I was there. There was one huge apartment complex on both sides of Nova Ave (Chapel Wood).

The Bay is like that too. All of the rappers who blow up because of the Bay wasn't born and raised there or don't acknowledge the Bay after they blow up. Too $hort moved to Oakland when he was 14. He even said "born in L.A. got the game from the Bay" on that popular California song remix they played on the radio. Of course we know Pac moved to the Bay when he was almost an adult. Then he screamed live and die in L.A. before he died. The Game forgot about Frisco and Fillmoe nikkas as soon as he started fukking with G Unit.

Out of town rappers got their game from folks in the Bay who was born in raised in Bay Area hoods they whole life. Master P and the Game copped game from JT the Bigga Figga from Fillmoe. Pac's real homies were Richie Rich, Rappin 4Tay, E-40 and Ant Banks. Local rappers in the Bay often get caught up in the local turf bullshyt or can't stay out of the streets because they aren't mainstream industry nikkas who sit in boardroom meetings with cacs. The result is that the Bay lost many local legends to the street shyt :mjcry: (i.e. Mr. Cee from RBL Posse, Hitman, Seagram, the Jacka).

The problem I see with DC is that supporting local rap is a new phenomena. Wale really was the first DMV rapper to really catch a real buzz nationally. Back in the day, you had random Go-Go rappers and Section 8 Mob in the 90's who sounded like a bootleg West Coast Rap group with East Coast tendencies. But Wale really started the trend of nikkas from DC actually wanting to rap as a career. And the thanks he gets is "you ain't from here, moe" :birdman:. fukk type of shyt is that. :mindblown: If it wasn't for Wale, there wouldn't be a lane for Shy Glizzy or Trel. :aicmon:

See, I want to say its a new phenomenon but I can't completely. I think it was always a slow and steady process overall to gain support in DC after a while. On a commercial level, I see what you mean. But if you dig deep enough, the acts that didn't get as big as a Wale or even reach the level of a Fat Trel, Shy Glizzy, or Logic got notice in other ways that people didn't really recognize or really respect until later. You got people like Kokayi who was grammy nominated and scored one of Kevin Hart's stand up specials. You got Poem-cees who featured on Def Poetry Jam twice. Oddisee has pretty much a cult following at this point. So yeah, the support thing is little complicated.

:salute: I'm try to head out there this summer I only visited dc n Maryland during the holidays tho but Wat's the best time of the yr to come out?

Usually Spring or Fall but Summer in DC is very active since there’s always something going on and it can be festive in some parts even at night....Summer nights in DC be on point :blessed:

If you can handle the humidity, you should eat good during the summer especially since a lot of them young Ethiopian jawns will be able to show off more skin. Plus, 9th & U (Little Ethiopia) got hella Ethiopian restaurants, cafes, bars, lil clubs, and hookah lounges that you could get into and even more down U Street and nearby Adams Morgan.

Early summer, I'd say. Because that's when all the events really happen. If you drink though, for some reason, DC got all kinds of beer festivals going on, too. I don't have a calendar for them all but there's quite a few of them that happen in the spring/summer time.

Yeah. If not May, I say August is the best month. Because of these damn festivals that pop off. And Funk Parade is really taking off in DC as well.
U Street Festival been kinda meh but H Street Festival still been on point.

Norfeast groovin…
I also wanted to add another point about the DC rap scene. It was probably a lot harder to get rappers out there both because of the dominance of GoGo music plus the strong emphasis on street credibility and having a certified background. That automatically eliminated anyone from ththe surrounding areas and when you went into DC they was tryna he like Backyard or Raw Image rather than a Wu Tang or a Dogg Pound.

So it makes sense that DC hasn’t made it yet. This era is the best chance because it carries so much less emphasis on the streets and the eclectic nature of the DMV can shine through a bit more.

To me though, the key will be to retain at least some regional identity and ironically enough that hatin ass culture here if inverted can give us more of an NYC vibe where only things from the region are supported and out of town acts have a harder time gaining support. If the industry decides that DC isn’t important enough for acknowledgement that can help push the region closer together. Keeping a bit of the DC area identity is important cuz right now things are too blended which is both gift and curse. If DC nikkaz come out looking and sounding like NY or ATL nikkaz that’s not going to get the job done we’ll just be way down the totem pole of Hip Hop cities.

I’d love to see just one major local rapper rock some Madness and post up around the way for their video and show the culture of the area.

RBL is my shyt! Smfh damn shame what happened to Mr. Cee he was real talented.

You hit on a lot of points tho breh. I want DC to be more united like the Bay is. I’m sure it’s issues there too but we take more pride in ourselves and our neighborhoods than we do in the collective region.

It doesn’t help that there are bama ass nikkaz that love to pose but that shouldn’t even be a thought at this point since cards are easy to pull out here.

Kiiiilllllllll, your cuzzo is Ras!!??? :gladbron:

Lol yeah breh that’s my lil cuz I be reppin in my sig. Before the Kobe avi I had the Slizzards avi all day in the paint.
