wale ain't even from DC... and i think that's what trel is low key trying to say. he basically saying, i'm the real dc nikka and this is what dc really represents

truthNah he from Gaithersburg then moved out Largo I believe. This is just the relationship of the different areas at work. I'm a Mo County nikka even tho I've lived in PG for nearly 10 years, Wale a Mo County nikka and was later a PG nikka and when he first came out tried to play it like he was from da city then put it under the umbrella of "DMV" which isn't a real term of the locals but rather the radio. Maybe he got fam in da city, I got fam and friends there and trust you can tell a DC nikka from an MD nikka they have this particular style you don't find in MD or VA. I always thought its cuz they live in a special city under special status so they get that same "I'm better than you, that should be me" mentality that breeds hate amongst us all in the area plus its small so everyone damn near knows everyone.
Anyone that knows da city knows its generally a very lame thing for a Maryland or VA nikka to come thru and fake claim like they from there. Bein' real and stayin' true to the game is a sort of unspoken standard in DC and the outlying areas and if you break those things you get hated on. Trel ain't really even attack the nikka, that's a typical "set the record straight" type of DC response its a few Northeast nikkaz I know that would've carried it the same way or worse. What he said wasn't wrong Wale doesn't represent actual DC culture he's a bit more broad and represents the area at large, but some people are sensitive and say it wasn't necessary for Trel to even speak.
IMO, Wale prolly did know some street nikkaz cuz he woulda been extorted a long time ago if he didn't.

Maybe DC was wild back during them Rayful years. Today, its too expensive, most the old residents got pushed out the city or over in SE DC.
There's so much money pouring into DC, cranes all over the city, new developments plopping up everywhere. $2 billion waterfront project in SW DC, building a second commercial/downtown area south of the mall, City Center, they restored the Howard Theater, new condo building over the Shaw/Howard metro, new condos on New York ave. Basically the entire north side of DC is safe.....like white people safe
Outside of SE, ain't no hood nikkas here no more. Now in Philly.....where I'm from.....ain't no gentrification happening. Drive 10 blocks away from City Hall and......... :lawdeddie: South Street is Philly's equivalent of U Street and the feeling of general safety is night and day :lawdeddie: Only Baltimore is more fukked up. I don't see a problem with him telling his story but don't pretend that a majority of blacks in DC are savages like he is. I'm older and seen this game played before and they have USED it against us because we have this thing about being hard when most aren't like that. Racism is in full effect for us and the last thing we need is for a person like trel to be a spokes person to represent other young black men. Nah sometimes its just easier to say DC. Like if I travel to other places and they ask where I'm from I'm not gonna say Maryland I'ma say DC because that's the major city in my area. Saying Maryland gon make somebody think I live in the countryside or Baltimore, I think that was Wale's dilemma and he rode the DMV wave and blew up. For better or worse he opened the door for more acts to come out of the area so its still props to be given albeit begrudgingly.
A lot do it because the average person knows about DC as opposed to areas outside of DC. A person can claim uptown or Brooklyn because damn near everyone heard of those places. If someone was from woodlawn in Baltimore and not directly from Baltimore city, they would be stupid to rap about Woodlawn when nobody has heard of it and when its right next to baltimore so they did things in Baltimore also. It is just simple to say Baltimore. That is why people do it and probably why wale did it.
